The Dutch were ready long before this. As long as there’s still oil to skim, let everyone with a skimmer — Dutch or otherwise — get out there and par-tay!

BP would still own the oil. Is it refinable? I don’t know.

All I’ve heard is that they were planning to “capture” up to 90% of the flow by the end of July, “clean it and then burn it.” Perhaps they don’t have the production capacity to refine it all. Perhaps they don’t have enough tankers to collect it all and transport it. Or perhaps adding that much refined product to the system at once would drive down the price too much for comfort.

Maybe someone with greater insight into the vagaries of oil production economies can inform us.

Whether did you get the info that *Obama* owns the oil? Maybe the Feds might have a claim, but legally anything that comes out of that hole is still BP’s. It doesn’t seem to be worth a penny, however, since BP is collecting it and then burning it.

“So then who owns the oil?”

Law of capture. You get it, it’s yours.

“and is it still refinable?”

Yes. It is probably missing some of the lighter hydrocarbons, but is still valuable.

“I thought I heard on the radio that this scooped up oil was unrefineable and would go straight to the landfill.”

Some maybe. But even tar is useful.

Perhaps at some point (maybe this is why BP is interested)
these devices could be developed to take the NATURAL
oil out of seawater as an entirely new method of
oil production.

Centrifuge might be quicker (thus enabling the capture of more oil) though.

Wow. Is it possible that a Hollyweird liberal actually DID something for a change, instead of just whining about it and waiting for the government to do it?
