Obama says GOP making life harder for the jobless

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama on Saturday pinned blame on Republicans for making life harder for the unemployed and for those who could lose their jobs without new federal intervention. He did so even as he sought to distance himself from the "dreary and familiar politics" of Washington.

Capping a week in which the administration scored a victory — a $20 billion fund to be paid by BP for the victims of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill — Obama reserved his radio and Internet address to focus on the work that didn't get done.

His main concern was the rejection of a bill in the Senate that would have provided more money for the long-term unemployed, aid for strapped state governments and the renewal of popular tax breaks for businesses and individuals.

"If this obstruction continues, unemployed Americans will see their benefits stop," Obama said. "Teachers and firefighters will lose their jobs. Families will pay more for their first home. All we ask for is a simple up or down vote. That's what the American people deserve."

Well, you could blame the Republicans for losing the elections that put the clown posse in the White House and in charge of the House and the Senate.

Capping a week in which the administration scored a victory — a $20 billion fund to be paid by BP, after “administrative costs”, $5 million will be available for the victims of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill....

There. Fixed it.

Compromise on what? Indefinite unemployment compensation?

Exactly. Republicans bend over, they're discredited on reining in spending. Republicans stand their ground, Obama paints them as heartless to the unemployed.

If they'd grow some balls and tell people what's going on they wouldn't be in these pickles.

I say we fire all the government school teachers in this country.
the failure of the government schools to teach math skills has brought this destruction upon us.

60 votes is a super filibuster-proof majority.
60-59=1

“He did so even as he sought to distance himself from the “dreary and familiar politics” of Washington.”

Yes, if everyone only were as nonpartisan as our president, things would be EVER so much better....

What’s disturbing is that the man evidently thinks we’ll believe this swill. Apparently he doesn’t realize that most Americans are well capable of learning from their mistakes. The mistake they made in 2008 will be forcefully rectified in 2012 and they will be deeply suspicious of candidates promising “hope and change” for at least a generation.

Why is that Obama might it be because they are trying to follow the paygo rule the democrats passed? I mean we do want them to follow the law or was that passed by the democrats only for show?

he can get any thing passed.. he needs to quit blaming the republicans... but then he always has to blame some one

Our guys Lhave to take off the gloves -- and call him on every lie. Granted, that's a full-time job!

Why do our guys have so much more trouble telling the truth than their guys do lying? Of course, to the left, it's not really lying . . . maybe it's related to deconstructionism or something, but the left simply has no interest in true v. false; they're just morally colorblind on that distinction. Political expedience is what serves them instead of truth!

There’s a Top Story headline on Yahoo right now about how the BP CEO attended a yacht race as the oil flowed. Yeah, and BO attends ballgames, throws parties, plays golf. . . . .

How about the GOP point out that, while unemployment is soaring, the DNC is refusing to do anything to stem the flood of job-stealing illegals? Unfortunately, too many in the GOP are loathe to lose the endless supply of cheap labor.

99 weeks of unemployment compensation and counting.

That's not unemployment. That's retirement with a government pension.

Obama will never admit to responsibility for anything bad. He is, after all, the Lightworker Messiah.
