I like her even more now. I must admit. I have been saying for years. Alcohol will screw you up way more than smoking a joint. And alcohol is legal ?

It makes no sense.

Smoking Pot Is No Big Deal and I agree.

It’s nobody’s business if I want to sit home on Saturday night, listen to Europe ‘72 by the Dead and smoke a fatty.

It’s my business not the government, the nanny staters nor the holy than holy crowd.

Alcohol will screw you up way more than smoking a joint.

Preliminary and ongoing research suggests otherwise. Had a brain scan lately ?

I know and agree. It is nuts to have something that grows wild be illegal while something as distructive as alcohol is legal? Both used in the privacy of your home should be perfectly legal.I applaud her for her honesty and there is nothing conservative about telling people what they can and can’t do in their own home.

You’d probably be surprised to learn that the alcohol lobby spends millions per year to supress publicity on all the negative effects of the drug they market.

At the same time, they spend millions (along with law enforcement) lobbying against reform of marijuana laws, and anti-pot publicity campaigns. Pretty hypocritical when you think about it.

My ex husband is an alcoholic, a very nasty one. Anyway I do recall law enforcement telling me many years ago that all the domestic violence calls they get are from drunks, not pot smokers, to make your point.

I haven’t used any kind of drug, alcohol included for over 40 years so I’m not agreeing with you with the hope of smoking pot legally some day.

We always compare pot to alcohol in these debates. A different comparison shows just how inconsistent and illogical our drug policies are.

Heroin is generally considered much worse than pot, yet a very compelling case can be made that heroin is a far less dangerous drug than alcohol. The following statements represent facts that aren’t widely known:

Alcohol is more quickly addictive than heroin. Fewer doses are required to create an given level of addiction and tolerance.

Alcohol addiction withdrawal is more severe clinically than heroin withdrawal. Alcohol withdrawal lasts longer and hurts more. Alcohol detox deaths are fairly common.

Chronic alcohol addicts are usually sick on a cellular level with every organ adversely affected. Heroin abuse is associated only with lifestyle effects like malnutrition or needle born infections. A chronic alcoholic is more difficult to treat medically because the global damage to tissues compounds the medical problems.

Chronic alcohol abuse causes permanent mental impairment, heroin does not.

Why isn’t something as dangerous as alcohol illegal? Because we tried it and it didn’t work. Prohibition created a profitable and socially damaging organized crime industry.

I hate it when an intrusive, BIG GOVERNMENT SOLUTION to a problem is called conservative. Making laws to control peoples lifestyles for their own good is what LIBERALS do!
Anyone who gives drugs to children should be hung by their testicles, but adults should be allowed to consume whatever poison they choose and face the full consequence for that decision.

Conservatism is about freedom and personal responsibility. Nanny state government is the creation of liberalism.

The way I read it though, Sarah wasn’t advocating legalization, but just more logical law enforcement priorities.

Palin’s stand is solidly conservative and sensible.

Go Sarah!

Well said, but don't expect that to save you from the petty drug war fascists. It's a conservative position to want to keep the government out of our homes, backyards, and to respect individual choice and privacy. Trying to claim the opposite is an absurd inversion of what it means to be conservative.

And, as you have noted, alcohol, a legal drug, is the worst drug on the face of god's green earth, by a long shot. It's responsible for more death and destruction than all others combined. The hypocrisy of the drug war apologists is breathtaking. The only intellectually honest position to take would be for prohibitionists to include alcohol as well on the list of banned substances.

I don’t smoke pot or go with girls that do, but I agree with Palin: there are more important things for cops to be doing. Like arresting illegal alien criminals.

I so tire of hearing this. I tried pot one time in college, it scared the crap out of me and I became violent. One side of me got hot and the other side was freezing, every noise got too loud, every taste bud in my mouth screamed thirsty. I tried a strawberry and it tasted SWEET Sweet sweet, bitter, Bitter, BITTER... and I freaked out. I ran out of party house and started swinging at people and hit the ground finally passing out. I went to the hospital. I slept for close to 24 hours after.

Some claim I got bad pot, but I got it from my cousin and he smoked the same stuff. It was not laced with anything. The fact is, pot reacts differently to different people and your claim of alcohol screwing you up more than pot is IMHO not scientific.

Good for Sarah! I’m not a pot smoker, but I do think adults ought to be able to grow it and use it. Though it does get a little more complicated when we start talking about legalizing the sale, use by minors, etc.

Alcohol is a beverage. A cold beer or a glass on wine isn’t going to cause any problems.

Every police department, large and small, better get their priorities straight and their entire force educated before the food riots start. Which they will. Then when they do, even the badge-heavy bullies will hopefully let the pot smokers alone and concentrate on the violence-perpetrators. As you know they should. Hopefully...

I’m not an advocate for either, but I have to agree. I’ve seen plenty of drunk people get all crazy and fight. The guy on pot will say, “Forget it man, let’s order a pizza.” I’ve never seen a person get belligerent on grass. I’m not going to feed you the line of crap that you drive better on pot than sober, I don’t believe that for a second, but I’ve never seen stoned people destroy things and fistfight.

Truly pot is far worse than drinking alcohol in certain areas, like driving, thinking, activities that require alertness. Pot will even bring out a psychosis in some people that otherwise would not have occurred. The entire purpose of pot is to 'trip" on it, get "high", and the stronger the pot the more it screws up the thinking. As for alcohol, it's only dangerous if you drink too much of it, or if you're an alcoholic. However, it's been a bain to mankind since man first crushed grapes to make alcohol. They are both bad, alcohol is a narcotic, pot is a mind altering drug. And don't forget, not all that long ago alcohol was made illegal in America, and for good reason, it had profound impacts on so many families in American that the "abstinance" movement began and grew for decades until it's goal was reached. Illegal booze.

The problem in America is excess with everything. Drugs, booze, sex, food, lust for money, lust for power. And we definately live in a generation of "ME", only "ME". Which makes it easy for younger people to do everything in excess, making whatever they do become dangerous to themselves, or to other.
