In the past year, Jim DeMint, South Carolina's junior senator, has transformed himself from right-wing outlier to the Senates leading tribune of Tea Party sentiment. His influence has expanded despite -- or perhaps because of -- his willingness to thumb his nose at Republican Party elders, a trait that only adds to the intrigue about his ultimate intentions.
Does he hope to displace Mitch McConnell, the GOP leader in the Senate? Might he harbor even loftier -- that is to say, presidential -- ambitions? Or is he content to position himself as the most conservative senator in an increasingly conservative party, and to reap whatever harvest might result?
One thing is for sure: DeMint is one of the people with the most to celebrate as the strange saga of Alvin Greene, the unemployed Army veteran who is (for now) the Democratic Partys Senate candidate in South Carolina, drags on. Why? Because despite South Carolinas reputation as a Republican redoubt -- and despite the growing national buzz around DeMint -- the senators home-state standing had begun to look surprisingly shaky.
A Public Policy poll in May indicated that only 43 percent of South Carolinians approved of the job DeMint was doing in the Senate. Thirty-nine percent said that DeMint was not spending enough time focusing on his state's interests while in Washington, whereas only 38 percent said his level of commitment to advocating for South Carolina was "about right." Public Policys Tom Jensen wrote on his blog that these amounted to "pretty underwhelming approval ratings" for DeMint.

We all love Demint. Ignore the BS of this Public Policy poll. Not even “likely voters.”
He is getting a lot of praise from our conservative leaders and media folk.
Based on his recent history:
Mitt Romney as President, Lindsay Graham and Dino Rossi as Senators, and Jeb Bush succeeding Mitt Romney.
That’s damn near as bad as wanting “I admire him so much” McCain as President, “I agree with his immigration positions” McCain as Senator, Carly “racist tone” Fiorina for Senator and Rick “Charlie Crist in cowboy boots” Perry as Texas Guv.
Damn near? I'd say worse. Romney was/is running for leader of the free world.
Regardless, I notice you feel no need to lambaste DeMint for his sins, despite the fact that flaws are absolutely the only thing you see in a certain other Conservative of note......
Instant forgiveness for Demint, Hunter.......instant condemnation and permanent begrudging for a certain lady.........
I didn’t say a word about Palin or endorsements on this thread til you came along.
Jim DeMint is one of our party’s superstars. He’s hot today, he will be red-hot in the years to come.
After Lord Zero got elected, I said that those who do the best job of opposing him are the Republican leaders of the future, and Jim DeMint is is the first tier of those leading the way.
despite the fact that flaws are absolutely the only thing you see in a certain other Conservative of note......
Go get ‘em, Sen. DeMint.
