Yeah. I was hearing about this on the radio yesterday. The Reverend and his cadre of National Association of Always Complaining People got their asses arrested after an hour of refusing to move from the seats of board members at the meeting. The mood of people in general is that these idiots are way out of line. But then again, they're from Durham which most of us consider the armpit of the east coast.
That reverend is a big ole boy! I'll bet Shoney's hates to see him coming through the door! :-)
To: Travis McGee
Here's a suggestion for the good Reverend (and I use that term LOOSELY). Instead of hate mongering, perhaps he could encourage his followers to work hard and achieve education and skills that would permit them to relocate to nicer neighborhoods, which would in turn afford their children association with higher achievers. It's a free country and nothing other than people like this Reverend prevent them from doing so.
I lived through public school desegregation in the south during the 1970s and in retrospect it performed no useful function. Those with parents who supported and encouraged them onto higher education continued on, whether they were black or white, bussed in or not. But those with no support became leeches of the system, and activist lard ass Reverends. It didn't change anything in the end. Not only this, but kids are terrible and cruel. I fully remember the grief that we gave the bussed in kids, as well as the grief they gave us. It wasn't right, but that's the way it is.
For the record... none of my black friends here can stand this asshole (Reverend) nor any of his ilk which come from that pit known as Durham NC.

The plant is in a little town outside Asheville—can’t remember the name.
Good to hear about the Boy Scout camps, though...our oldest son is working on his Bear patch next year! He went on two B.S. campouts last school year w/his dad and he loved every minute of it.

I have a boy going into Bear Cubs in the fall, and another in Tiger Cubs. And a Star Scout and a Life Scout (13 and 16). Lots of good Scouting here, and both Catholic dioceses have good Bishops and lots going on.

What do these short-sighted, race-baiters want?
He wants to follow in his father's footsteps... and organize the community.

I would like the good Rev. Barber to explain how it isn’t racist to say that in order to learn, black kids need to sit next to white kids (or something to that effect), and how it isn’t elitist to assume that poor kids need to sit next to rich kids to learn.
Riddle me that, good reverend.

I am so glad I homeschooled my children, saved money and then put them in a private school for high school. These people constantly complain about the quality of education here in Wake County. There’s never enough money, teachers, buildings...and they are never happy.

Don’t worry, you’ll be at least a couple of hours away. Asheville has its own set of uniqueness.

I was one of the folks listening yesterday (and participating, though I get a little emotional every once in a while, like the call where I talked about having cancer when I was a kid and how these fool Demoncrats are going to kill people like me), and I got the notion to contact Renee Ellmers’ campaign manager, give him the # to the show and tell him to have her call in. He called this morning, talked to Jason, and got her on at 8:05.

If the good reverund really cared about kids, he would realize that its a proven fact that PARENTS participate more in the childs education when the school is nearby and not across town. And PARENTAL involvement is key to learning success. Add to that , the extra time each child wastes busing back and forth (which could be spent studying or sleeping), the costs of Busing( which could be spent better on schools), and the environmental impact of polluting buses running back and forth, and its a no-brainer. Neighborhood Schools...FOR THE CHILDREN !!!!

I take it you weren’t around in the 50s/60s when school integration began? You might want to read up on how white folks handled that.

Heard Renee this AM though. She needs a Sarah Palin endorsement. Since I only listen when I'm driving, I missed that. Sarah should make Renee her top priority so Bob Etheridge is history not only to Congress, but to the Ways and Means Committee.
