South Carolina Senate: DeMint 58%, Greene 21%
Rasmussen ^

Posted on 06/15/2010 9:26:15 AM PDT by Chet 99

While South Carolina Democrats fret over how an unemployed political unknown with a felony charge hanging over him won their party’s Senate nomination, the first Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of the general election contest finds incumbent Republican Senator Jim DeMint far in the lead.

DeMint, who is seeking a second six-year term, earns support from 58% of Likely Voters in South Carolina, while Democratic nominee Alvin Greene picks up 21% of the vote. Nine percent (9%) like some other candidate, and 13% are undecided.

In a state that leans strongly Republican, Democrats have invested most of their attention this year in the race to succeed embattled GOP Governor Mark Sanford. No major Democrat opted to run against DeMint, a highly popular conservative who is seen as very difficult to beat. State Representative Nikki Haley is running stronger than her Republican Primary runoff opponent in the general election battle for governor of South Carolina. The runoff is scheduled for June 22.

DeMint leads among male voters by better than four-to-one and among women by a two-to-one margin. Yet while 90% of Republican voters back DeMint, Greene earns just 50% support in his own party. Sixty-eight percent (68%) of voters not affiliated with either party prefer the incumbent.

Greene, an African-American, captures 51% of the black vote, while 74% of whites favor DeMint.

It is so enjoyable to watch the Dems fret about Greene. I do wonder where he got the money to file to run, though. He said he saved it while in the military. Not buying it.

I’d say there is a clear-cut winner here.

Wonder how Dem/MSM spin works on this.

Just saw an article about - James Clyburn saying hackers behind Green’s surprise win in SC.

“Greene, an African-American, captures 51% of the black vote”

Color over substance in the black community. So one can assume in the black community color is the first priority when selecting a candidate.

>> 21%?

FIFTY-one percent of Blacks.

So much for the idea that Greene is a plant, elected by Republican crossovers, and other such nonsense.

They’d vote for Robert Mugabe, if he were on the ballot, because of the color of his skin.

Watch, new rules like those soccer games... if DeMint gets too far ahead, he loses.

I wonder if Jim Clyburn voted for the black guy?

Notable here - 51% of blacks prefer Greene because he’s black - felony charges and/or complete insanity be damned.

Who are the racists here ? There can’t be any other explanation for his 51% support among blacks, while overall approval is 21%. I’m almost thinking noone but black people in NC support this guy.

...and they say Alvin’s win was a fluke, computer glitch, hacking, racism, etc. Unfortunately, this just goes that we have a ton of idiots here in SC.

Saying it is one thing; proving it is another. Clyburn is going to come away from this with egg on his face, because “it ain’t so”. IMHO

White 2,918,300 66%

Black 1,248,400 28%

Hispanic 127,900 3%

21% is pretty close to the total number of blacks in SC from the 2000 census. Go figure.

"21% - Oy vey."

Indeed. Funny that blacks represent 29% of the South Carolina population. I can only guess what the rate is among the voting population.

“Greene, an African-American, captures 51% of the black vote”

This is what James Clyburn should be investigating. Why do blacks vote for the black candidate, regardless of whether he has future felon potential?
