Dems see gulf oil crisis as chance for change
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | June 15 2010 | Carolyn Lockhead

The big question for many Democrats tonight is how far President Obama will go in his first Oval Office address to turn the Gulf of Mexico disaster into an opportunity to end the nation's dependence on petroleum.

"This is one of those 9/11 opportunities where you can rally the country to move in a different direction," said Lisa Margonelli, energy director of the center-left New America Foundation in Oakland. "It's not simply a case of political repositioning. Obama is going to have to go into the phone booth and become Superman."

. . . "Obama should call for a tax on carbon, he should call for a higher federal tax on gasoline, making it more expensive so people don't use gasoline the way they use water," Abrams said. "There's too much money to be made in oil . . ."

“Cap & Trade” was struggling, then.. BOOM, a coal mine explodes in Virginia.. Then BOOM, an oil rig explodes in the gulf. The only thing “turned” here was a trick on America.

Obama is wagering that his power grab won't be challenged, but is stacking the Supreme Court just in case.

No it’s worse...they WANT small businesses to FAIL....you cant run service trucks and deliveries when gas is at five bucks a gallon....that’s what knocked the economy down before the 2008 elections. (all too conveniently)

Oh man, I hope he does it. It will be the kiss of death for the Dems in November. I’m sure the peasants (that’s us) out in the viewing audience will take that message exceedingly well. The Tea Partiers in particular will love it. Obama will go down the drain and take all the Dems with him faster than a speeding bullet.

*sigh*...well, I’ll be reading here at FR tomorrow about what was said. I simply cannot abide even looking at pictures of this man and I will certainly not watch AND listen to him. Every word he speaks is a lie or an attempted seduction. Every action he takes corrodes moral fiber or destroys personal initiative and prosperity. He is the human form of the bubonic plague. Y’all will have to fill me in later, if you can stand to watch and listen yourselves.

Obama will most likely further reduce domestic drilling and broker “special” deals with middle east shippers of oil.

Its all about getting more power, all about politics and proving himself as a true Muslim to the advancing tide of Islamic domination, he is securing his position of power.

To him America greatest weakness is the dependency of fossil fuels for transportation, its the easiest way to destroy America.

And this crisis is a very timely and opportunistic event.

Very timely indeed...

The manufactured crisies comtinue on. I threw away my tinfoil. These people are the worst evil in that they feel nothing toward the victims of their crimes.

Obozo should be arrested before this vile speech tonight.

I agree with you 100%, after his speech we will (are) see the changing of America, closing of off shore drilling, makes me sick. So many thousands out of work down here and, elsewhere. With his speech we will see the changing of America as we know it to be today.

Maybe I am alone in thinking this, or I am crazy.

I don’t think this “speech” tonight is going to help B.O.

Americans see he is failing.
Americans didn’t want his healthcare.
Americans won’t buy his push, if he makes it, for more gov’t control.

The only ones who seem to roll over for Obama are the corporate leaders and his congressional lapdogs...and I gotta believe the day is coming, sooner rather than later, when he won’t scare THEM either.

He is floundering....jmo.
