I had heard a great deal about Saul Alinsky's book Rules for Radicals, but had never read them. The Right has demonized Alinsky, linking him to Obama. Curious to know more, I went to Wikipedia and found the Rules themselves.
As I read them, it occurred to me that these Rules are strategic, not ideological. Alinsky was of the Left, but the Rules have no party.
As I look around America in 2010, it occurs to me that the group currently using these Rules most effectively is the Tea Party.

I do support using SOME of Alinsky’s tactics sparingly. Things like cutting a target out of the herd and politically eliminating it are fair play on the field we’ve been given.
“The Right has demonized Alinsky, linking him to Obama.”
If only you could have responded to him in real time. The look on his face would have been priceless—because he doesn’t have a clue.
“Please Roger provide an example of Tea party people invented frivilious lawsuits and ethical complaints designed to do nothing but smear and personally defund an elected governor. Waiting lefties...waiting lefties.”
Rog googled Wiki ... and the Sun-Times posted his analysis.
Both are ‘Chicago Way’ tools.

I agree 100%.
Hey Roger:
Don't you mean "never read it"? Shouldn't the book title be underlined?
We don’t have to be criminal or file frivolous lawsuits but there are Alinsky tactics we can use sparingly.
Let our conscience be our guide.
Gee they sure do catch on quick don’t they? *eyeroll*
Roger Ebert must really think someone gives a damn about what he writes.
I’ll bet seeing the right using Alinsky’s tactics made Ebert’s jaw drop.
He dated Oprah? She is much more attractive than the large black woman he married. Guess he has a thing for the type.
He gives any liberal movie 4 stars and that goes for any movie directed or produced by one of his favorites.
Otherwise,he still does a decent job of movie reviews but he is a total idiot.
Gotta admire him though for hanging in through what he’s gone through.
The Taxed Enough Already Party would never feed beans to a horde of homeless, and then give them seats at a hoity, toity event.

Normally you'd be right, but Roger didn't bother to read the book. He read some of Alinsky's text off Wikipedia and imagines he understands the whole thing. And he also thinks there's such a thing as "the" Tea Party, as in a political party by that name. There wasn't a single correct premise in that mess of a posting.
Face rot has extended to brain rot....or is it the other way around????
It is written to Chicago so I guess we should expect it. But he evidently reads books about like he reviews movies.
Alinsky was an evil man. An evil genius. His book “Rules For Radicals” was one of the best political manuals for trouble makers ever written. It was brilliant. And if you read it, you can devise strategies to counterattack the very real and effective actions of the Progressive Leftists who would destroy our nation and our liberties — and even, in some cases, turn THEIR strategies against them.
Ebert is wrong to the extent that the Tea Parties are not driven by “rebellion,” but by restoring liberties. The motivations are totally different — totally opposite. Leftists are motivated by SELFISH goals in the guise of “shared rewards,” Tea Partiers are motivated by selfless goals that will benefit future generations — not only of theeir own children but all children — providing the OPPORTUNITIES and possibilities for achievement which which leftists will always discourage or deny.
He must have brain mets. His doctors at Northwestern need to order an MRI of his brain.
Why are these newspapers still in business? Or their buildings still standing? Why are their insulting dimwitted scribes still typing?
America seems to have no one with any balls.
Yup, particularly this part..."The Right has demonized Alinsky, linking him to Obama." There is a photo of Obama teaching some of them on a chalk board I believe...but of course it's just the right that is linking Obama to them.
