I give far more credit to King Kamehameha than that. He actually ruled and reigned in his kingdom, and engaged in physical combat. Heck, Kamehameha could probably throw a fast pitch.

Kamehameha was a blood thirsty tyrant. But Obama seems to love those kinds of leaders.
A number of Polynesian groups most certainly were, and there is an oral tradition or folklore of it in Hawaii.

But that is not proof enough for me.

And we all know how accurate oral tradition and folklore is. Take, for instance, the menehune, or Pele, or my own personal Amakua, Lono.
Half of my family are from Polynesia and the islands. I was born and raised not only in Hawaii, but in the culture as well. I have yet to hear about cannibalism being a intricate part of Hawaiian society.
I will contact my family on the Big Island. Tomorrow to find out if they can provide me with any insight. They would know more than I.
Well, he didn’t honor D-Day with me, so I’m not going to celebrate Kamehameha Day with him. Fair enough?
I’ve never heard of C on the Islands but it was practiced in WWII. The Airmen and the Headhunters goes into some detail in Borneo about how the native folks ended up fighting the Japs while protecting US aviators stranded. It wouldn’t surprise me if early accounts would use this as a deterrent to invasion. It has quite a psychological impact.

American Indian groups were all over the charts with it, from abhorrence, to occasional ritual, to just another kind of meat. I come in part form a group somewhere in the middle.
I do put stock in folklore. I feel there is at least a kernel of fact in most traditional narratives. The problem is - how much? Example, the Donner Party resorted to cannibalism to survive. If that fact existed in the context of a non literate society, it could expand to the claim of generalized cannibalism amongst wagon trains, which was not true.
Skeletal remains do not present a very happy picture of early human behavior, but I don’t have a clue about Hawaiian archaeology.
In any event, the guy BO is promoting for celebration just sounds like another mundane, murderous dictator. He seems to like them.

You have the makings of a part-to-whole fallacy here.
Just because some Polynesian tribes practiced cannibalism doesn’t mean all Polynesian tribes engaged in this practice. We do know that the Polynesians practiced human sacrifice. As a matter of fact, my uncle once told me, in a matter of fact sort of way, that if the Ali’i chose your child to be sacrificed to one of the “Gods”, you felt honored that your baby was chosen. I was in my teens at the time, so I did not want to disrespect my uncle by telling him what I thought of that practice(simply put, it was and is evil).

I admit my knowledge of Polynesian cultures is sketchy. I have found out recently that some of the Central American peoples were at least in part Polynesian, sort of validating Thor Heyerdahl’s theory, except that he had the direction of migration backwards.

Like h*ll! One day when the truth comes out, and it will, he won't be able to show his face in any one of the '57 Sates'...including Hawaii! He'll need a bunker somewhere in the foothills of the Himalayas.
