Whitman, Fiorina are thrust into national spotlight

SAN JOSE, Calif. When they went to bed Tuesday night, Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina had just won the Republican nominations for California governor and U.S. senator, respectively.

By the time they woke up Wednesday, the former Silicon Valley titans had been thrust into the national spotlight. The political class bandied their names as vice presidential picks - or possibly even presidential candidates in 2012 or 2016.

To many national GOP strategists hungering for a more diverse party with an "outsider, non-career politician" image, the story of Meg and Carly hit the spot.

"The takeaway from California last night was that this is the Year of the Republican Women," said Kevin Madden, a Washington-based GOP strategist who was communications czar for former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney's 2008 presidential bid.

"We're looking for candidates who add diversity to the political roster," Madden said, "because we know that voters this year are rejecting the status quo and the old guard - the good old boys in the back room."

But before they set any sights on the White House, Whitman and Fiorina have to beat Democrats Jerry Brown and Sen. Barbara Boxer in November.

KEYWORDS: boxer; ca2010; carlyfiorina; elections; fiorina; megwhitman; rinos; ussenate

Boxer received less votes than Jerry Brown and vote totals for Democrat senate candidates were within 100K of totals for Republican senate candidates.

Analysts are claiming Fiorina needs 60% of CA Independents to win. The more people listen and contrast the incessantly whining juvenile imbecilic Boxer versus the corporate executive Fiorina, the more likely they will vote for Carly.

Ummmm..., what about some of the FReepers who are "whining" about Carly Fiorina winning?

When Boxer Attacks her on Abortion, she needs to drive it right back in her face.

There are alot of Democrat Christian/Catholic Latinos whose church will say they can’t vote for Boxer if she makes an issue of this.

Paint Boxer as a baby killer dujour. A Partial Birth Bumper.

If Carly stresses that she doesn’t want to see viable babies ripped from the womb and their lives snuffed out, she will win the argument. There can be no justification for that infanticide.

That headline makes it seem like they were raised in the wilderness by kindly she-wolves. They were national figures BEFORE they ever run.

Yeah; I noticed that myself. That's good news.

Why do you differentiate between Christian and Catholic? Last time I checked, Catholic is a Christian religion.

No, there is no justification for "partial birth abortions". None. However, since that is a done deal according to the Supreme Court, anything this woman can do to fight it, while bringing out Nation back to Constitutional principles is okay with me. I would have preferred Devore, but let's see what happens.

Sometimes politicians surprise me. I'm hoping this is the case, but have my doubts.

Catholic is (the parent of) Christian religion.

The Left relishes the idea of Catholics and Protestants being at each others throats again.

Me too, I am hoping for the best. Worried that when they get to the General that they will interpret moderation/center as running left.

Why don’t our politicians get it?

Well, it is, except for that goddess worship/social justice deal.

“”Well, it is, except for that goddess worship/social justice deal.””

Don’t forget my very favorite part of Catholicism.-

Do whatever you darn well please, and then lobby the Holy Pope to re-write the rules around you.

It’s difficult to take that seriously.
