The UN Security Council has voted in favour of fresh sanctions against Iran over its nuclear programme.
The council voted 12 to two, with one abstention, in favour of a fourth round of sanctions, including tighter finance curbs and an expanded arms embargo.
The US has promoted the sanctions as the toughest Iran has yet faced.
But Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad earlier warned his country would not agree to further nuclear talks if the sanctions were imposed.

The sanctions, in and of themselves, have been watered down . . . and, as we all know, are essentially worthless.

The votes are in, a diplomat in New York said:
Yes: 12
No: 2 (Brazil, Turkey)
Abstain: 1 (Lebanon)
“Brazil will vote no, Turkish foreign minister wanted Turkey to abstain but was overruled by [Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip] Erdogan who wants a no vote. If this is correct, Lebanon will also vote no.”

Can stern language be far behind?
This news reminds me of a great scene from the movie TEAM AMERICA : WORLD POLICE
Kim Jong Il: Hans Brix? Oh no! Oh, herro. Great to see you again, Hans!
Hans Blix: Mr. Il, I was supposed to be allowed to inspect your palace today, but your guards wont let me enter certain areas.
Kim Jong Il: Hans, Hans, Hans! Weve been frew this a dozen times. I dont have any weapons of mass destwuction, OK Hans?
Hans Blix: Then let me look around, so I can ease the UNs collective mind. Im sorry, but the UN must be firm with you. Let me in, or else.
Kim Jong Il: Or else what?
Hans Blix: Or else we will be very angry with you... and we will write you another nasty letter, telling you how angry we are.
Kim Jong Il: OK, Hans. Ill show you. Stand to your reft.
Hans Blix: [Moves to the left]
Kim Jong Il: A rittle more.
Hans Blix: [Moves to the left again]
Kim Jong Il: Good.
[Opens up trap, Hans falls in]
This so called sanctions is as effective as the above scene.
Wow! Imagine how tough the sanctions will be after Iran uses a few nukes!
(disgusted sarcasm)
If they did use nukes...the UN would decide the sanctions led to this issue and stop sactions against Iran. Then declare that since they now have Nukes we really can’t do anything to them now and that we should just do what they want.
Oooo, I'm skerd now. |
They are useful to Obama who wants to get the players to the table where he can convince Israel to give up almost everything in trade for O’s word to ensure their security. The world will then say, “peace, peace!” and O will return to “hero” status to those who are deluded.
Yes, and of course condemn Israel, because that’s what they do.
more heavily laden coarse language? wow that works!
Sanctions have only been effective within the rarified atmosphere of academic seminars, and only when they could point to a country or organization that possessed a moral compass. The most severe sanctions ever applied against a morally bankrupt country were the bombing campaigns of the U.S. and Brits against Germany. In his book Inside the Third Reich Albert Speer said, After two and a half years, in spite of the beginning of heave bombing, we had raised our entire armaments production from an average index figure of 98 for the year 1941 to a summit of 322 in July 1944. During the same period the labor force expanded by only about 30 percent. We had succeeded in doubling the output of labor.
One of the funniest movies ever.
Oh, whoopee! The sanctions will definitely work this time. After all, “third time’s a charm” (oh wait, make that “fourth time’s a charm”).
Do these people have any idea how ridiculous they look?
If Turkey openly flouts the sanctions, the same Turkish military and intelligence officials who run protection rackets for heroin moving west will increase the arms moving east inside the travel cordons.
LOL!
I’m sure the Iranians are shaking in their boots.....
Yeah, that’ll work. Thanks jhpigott.
