Seven Reasons Why Israel Will Never Get a Fair Shake
Townhall.com ^ | June 8, 2010 | John Hawkins

>"Never again." It's what the world said after the Holocaust. Fast forward sixty five years and the only thing standing between seven million Jews in Israel and a 2nd Holocaust is their ability to fight for their own survival and the increasingly inconsistent support of the United States. It doesn't matter that Israel is a beacon of Western civilization surrounded by terrorist-supporting nations, dictators, and rogue states. It doesn't matter that Israel could obliterate the Palestinians and take their land in a few weeks’ time if they so desired. It doesn't even matter that the Israelis are engaged in a low level defensive war with what could fairly be called the most depraved and despicable society on earth. No matter how grave the provocation or how clearly Israel is in the right, the world's judgment is always against Israel. Why?

Anti-Semitism: During World War II, with a few exceptions, nations all over Europe couldn't wait to ship their Jewish population off to the gas chamber and undoubtedly, many a Jew-hater today, particularly in Europe, learned it sitting on his grandpa's knee. That's doubly true in the Muslim world, where anti-Semitism and Islam seem to go together like peanut butter and jelly. The Nazis may have been reduced to groups of laughable misfits, but their views of Jews have gone mainstream across much of the Middle East and Europe.

The Have-Nots vs. the Haves: To many people on the Left, the actual facts on the ground are of secondary importance to the identities of the combatants. You see, there's an assumption oftentimes made by the Left that in a conflict between "haves" and "have-nots," the "have-nots" are always right simply by virtue of the fact that they're "have-nots." The Israelis are a civilized, prosperous, educated, Western pro-American nation with a modern military up against poor, ignorant, uncivilized savages who hate America and fight by killing women and children, throwing rocks, and blowing themselves up. Therefore, no matter what the Palestinians say or do, to many people on the Left, the Palestinians simply have to be in the right by virtue of who they are.

Israel's Situation Outside of People's Reality: Most people, especially most Westerners, cannot truly imagine what it's like to be in Israel's position. Despite their fantastic military, Israel is an isolated, postage-stamp-size nation that's only 8 miles across at one point. They are surrounded by enemies, all of whom would like to kill them down to the last child -- and they will if the Israelis ever become weak or drop their guard. Additionally, the Israelis are locked in an eternal struggle with genocidal Palestinians who have the support of the world, despite the fact that they have no interest in peace today, tomorrow, or ever if it means living next to Israelis.

When civilized people surrounded by sane neighbors -- whose nations have been safe and secure since they were born, who are used to successfully talking their problems out -- try to fathom the daily reality Israelis have to live with, it's difficult for them to even conceive of it.

Colonialism: Today, there's still a deep sense of guilt in Europe about colonialism. They look back at conquering, subjugating, and ruling other nations for profit as a terrible chapter in their history. So, when Western European nations look at Israel, they see it with different eyes than, say the United States, which doesn't consider itself to be a colonialist nation. When many Americans look at Israel, they see a bastion of Western civilization fighting for survival against people who want to finish the job the Nazis started while people from Western Europe look at the same facts and see a dark echo of what they believe was one of the most shameful times in their nation's history.

Fear of Islam: The West has been completely intimidated by Islam. Images of Muhammad? The press is terrified to show them. In Britain, even Catholics are calling for Muslim prayer rooms in Catholic schools. Here in the U.S., we're building a mosque at Ground Zero, which is like building a tribute to the Japanese military. What it all comes down to is that if most Muslims hate and despise Jews -- and let's be honest, they do -- then many completely emasculated Westerners are going to be too intimidated to go against them.

Geopolitics: Yes, Israel is prosperous for its size, but it’s a teeny, tiny isolated nation. The simple reality is that if another country has to choose between having a good relationship with Israel and having a good relationship with Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran, Turkey, and the rest of its hostile neighbors, it's much more economically rewarding to stand against Israel. Israel isn't going to be a major market for goods. Israel can't supply your nation with oil. So, for the leaders of many nations, condemning Israel is a dollars and cents decision.

The Blame Game: Failing nations around the world often try to gin up anger at scapegoats to distract their citizens from the poor job their rulers are doing. The United States plays this role for many nations. To a lesser extent, so do the British. Unfortunately for the Israelis, they are surrounded by failing, dictatorial states run by religious fanatics who'd much rather have their people raging at the Israelis rather than wondering why the country they're living in is so backwards. Do you think the Saudi royal family would rather have people talking about the Palestinians or why that country is still run by a monarchy in the 21st century? Do you think Iran wants people talking about the Palestinians or the fact that their economy is in shambles and the people are ready to revolt? Even if there wasn't a single Middle Eastern leader who was a raving anti-Semite, there would STILL be every incentive to gin up hatred against the Jews.

I was looking to see if you had "Obama" listed, but I see you have "Anti-Semitism", and that's pretty much the same thing.

Report: US Stopped Israel From Targeting Hizballah Missile Shipment
The London Times on Thursday reported on evidence it was shown revealing the
existence of Hizballah-run military bases in Syria where long-range surface-to-surface
missiles are received and prepared for shipment to southern Lebanon."

South Korea, North Korea, Israel and Iran
FOREIGN Minister Avigdor Lieberman noted in his trip to Japan earlier in the
month, North Korea does not only threaten its immediate neighbors. Through its
proliferation activities, and particularly through its close ties to Iran and its Syrian,
Hizbullah and Hamas clients, North Korea constitutes a threat to the Middle East …
John Brennan, Obama's chief advisor for counterterrorism and homeland security said
that the US must court what he referred to as "moderate elements," in Hizbullah."

Brennan: U.S. Should Foster 'Moderate Elements' of the Terrorist Group Hezbollah

“Hizbullah's rise in Lebanon fails to slow flow of U.S. military aid
Lebanon expects to receive additional U.S. assistance to develop its military and security forces. ….
Officials said the Obama administration has concluded that U.S. aid should not be
blocked by Hizbullah's domination of the government of Prime Minister Said Hariri.
They said the administration has agreed that the Iranian-sponsored Hizbullah and the
Palestinian militias were issues that required a regional solution that would include Syria.
…. In April 2010, U.S. Central Command oversaw the shipment of the first heavy weapons
to Lebanon as part of its five-year military modernization program. Centcom said the
shipment included 1,000 M16A4 rifles, 10 missile launchers, 1,583 grenade launchers
and 538 sets of day/night binoculars and night-vision devices."

"EXCLUSIVE: Former U.S. General Warns of Chemical Attacks Against Israel
General Paul E. Vallely (Ret.) revealed sobering information regarding possible chemical
and nuclear weapon activity by Iran and Hezbollah in an exclusive PJTV video.
According to the retired Major General and sitting chairman of Save Our Democracy,
Iran is planning a preemptive attack against Israel though its military proxy Hezbollah. A
submarine in Beirut unloaded suspicious cargo that signaled the potential presence of
chemical weapons. This news comes on the heels of Israel distributing gas masks to its
7.5 million citizens.

"Just in the last week, we have very definitive and confirmed information that Iran is
planning a preemptive attack against Israel," said Major General Vallely during the PJTV
interview. "The other event we just uncovered news on… is that a submarine docked in
Beirut a little over a week ago… Off-loaders had gas masks on and hazmat gear,
indicating, to me, that some sort of chemical weapons were being offloaded from the
submarine to the control of Hezbollah…. That's why I call the summer of 2010 the
tipping point for the Middle East." "

“US Won’t Promise Won’t Shoot Down Israeli Planes
In a meeting with students at West Virginia University, a young pilot asked the Chairman
of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. Army, Mike Malen, to comment on rumors that if
Israel decides to attack Iran, its fighters will need to cross Iraq's airspace to reach their
targets. The U.S. military has described this airspace as ‘closed to flights’. If so, would
American forces shoot down Israeli planes flying over Iraq?

Malen's reply: "We have a strong exceptional relationship with Israel. I spent much time
with my colleagues in Israel. And so we have a very clear understanding of where we are.
Beyond that, I just would not want to get into speculation about what might happen and
who might do what. Frankly, I do not think it serves any purpose. I hope that the issue
will be resolved in the way which will never have to answer a question like this. "

“US Weapons to Lebanon Despite Hizbullah Closeness
With the dividing lines between Hizbullah and the Lebanese Armed Forces not altogether
clear, the United States has delivered weapons and ammunition to Israel's northern
neighbor and thereby possibly to its enemy.
The U.S. embassy in Lebanon announced last week that on April 2 it had delivered the
first in a series of shipments of weapons and ammunition. The shipment included 1,000
M16A4 rifles, 10 missile launchers, 1,583 grenade launchers, and 538 sets of day/night
binoculars and night-vision devices. It was stressed that the equipment would be
supported with training provided by the U.S. government.
Lebanese Defense Minister Elias Murr visited Washington in February to discuss military
cooperation, especially U.S. assistance to the LAF to fight terrorism.
A month ago, Minister Murr told Lebanese Al-Manar television that though he does not
support integrating Hizbullah arms and forces within the LAF, “this does not mean we
should offer Israel a favor [and disarm Hizbullah].”

“America’s Shiny New Palestinian Militia
No matter how events play out, this story ends with U.S.-trained soldiers pointing their guns at Israel.
‘The stupidest program the U.S. government has ever undertaken” — last year that’s
what I called American efforts to improve the Palestinian Authority (PA) military force.
Slightly hyperbolic, yes, but the description fits because those efforts enhance the
fighting power of enemies of the United States and its Israeli ally.

First, a primer about the program, drawing on a recent Center for Near East Policy
Research study by David Bedein and Arlene Kushner: Shortly after Yasir Arafat died in
late 2004, the U.S. government established the Office of the U.S. Security Coordinator to
reform, recruit, train, and equip the PA militia (called the National Security Forces or
Quwwat al-Amn al-Watani) and make them politically accountable. For nearly all of its
existence, the office has been headed by Lt. Gen. Keith Dayton. Since 2007, American
taxpayers have funded it to the tune of $100 million a year. Many agencies of the U.S.
government have been involved in the program, including the State Department’s Bureau
of Diplomatic Security, the Secret Service, and branches of the military.”

Israel's Netanyahu keeping mum about Obama's virtual arms embargo
Israel's government has kept its silence during a year-long ban on weaopns sales imposed
by the United States at the same time the administration has approved $10 billion in
weapons sales to Arab states, a report said.”

“U.S. WARNS ISRAEL NOT TO HONOR ASSASSINATED AMERICAN RABBI FIRST U.S. VICTIM OF JIHAD KAHANE CEREMONY OFFENSIVE TO OBAMA Any commemoration in the Knesset (Israeli Parliament) of the anniversary of Rabbi Meir
Kahane's assassination would be harmful to the peace process, the American Embassy
told The Jerusalem Post.

The American comments came after the Jerusalem Post obtained e-mails in which an
embassy official told Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin's office that any plans for such a
ceremony was "something that Senator [George] Mitchell and his team are following
with concern."

The e-mails also implied that such a ceremony would be frowned upon by President
Barack Obama who is attempting to strengthen the U.S. ties to Muslim nations.

The likelihood of such a ceremony taking place was also the subject of a flurry of internal
embassy e-mails, in which US officials scrambled to find out where and when a
commemoration of the assassinated far-right-wing rabbi would occur.
The American-born Kahane was murdered in New York 19 years ago”

“(May09) American General Keith Dayton praises Fatah Soldiers as
'Founders of Palestinian State'
Palestinian Authority Special Forces were praised this week by an American general for
becoming the founders of a new Arab country within Israel's current borders.

Addressing a battalion in Tulkarm that recently finished training in Jordan, US lt. General
Keith Dayton said: "As I look at you, I couldn't be more proud of the fact that you
stepped up to be the founders of a Palestinian state."

The United States plans to expand a program to bolster Palestinian President Mahmoud
Abbas's security forces in the occupied West Bank, the general in charge of training and
equipping them said Monday.

"We have plans to train at least three more battalions before this time next year,"
Lieutenant General Keith Dayton told Reuters. Each battalion has about 500
members.”

'American training will be utilized to kill Jews'
”NORTHERN WEST BANK –security forces who recently received training
at U.S.-run bases as part of a stated effort to reform the PA's militias
“All the trainings we received from Dayton and company will not affect our loyalty to
our people and the resistance," said the former Brigades leader.
The others present concurred.
The gunman was referring to Keith Dayton, the U.S. security coordinator to the
Palestinian territories who has been overseeing the training of Palestinian militias.
Since the late 1990s, the U.S. has run training bases for PA militias. The U.S. also has
provided hundreds of millions of dollars in financial aid and weapons to build up the PA militias.
"… What we received from Dayton, we will use when the day comes for a confrontation."
"I do not think that the operations of the Palestinian resistance would have been so
successful and would have killed more than 1,000 Israelis since 2000 and defeated the
Israelis in Gaza without these [American] trainings," said Yousuf.

Yousuf received U.S. training in Jericho in 1999 as a member of the Preventative
Security Services. He is a Brigades chief in Ramallah, where he is accused of
participating in anti-Israel terrorism, including recent shootings, attacks against Israeli
forces operating in the city and a shooting attack in northern Samaria in December 2000
that killed Benyamin Kahane, leader of the ultranationalist Kahane Chai organization.
… Yousuf said his American training sessions were instrumental in killing Jews:
"All the methods and techniques that we studied in these trainings, we applied them against the Israelis," he said.
"We sniped at Israeli settlers and soldiers. We broke into settlements and Israeli army
bases and posts. We collected information on the movements of soldiers and settlers. We
collected information about the best timing to infiltrate our bombers inside Israel. We
used weapons and we produced explosives, and of course the trainings we received from
the Americans and the Europeans were a great help to the resistance."

"I myself received American trainings in Jericho. Together with my Preventative
comrades, I received trainings in intelligence methods and military trainings," he said. "In
the intelligence part, we learned collection of information regarding suspected persons,
how to follow suspected guys, how to infiltrate organizations and penetrate cells of
groups that we were working on and how to prevent attacks and to steal in places.

"On the military level, we received trainings on the use of weapons, all kind of weapons
and explosives," Yousuf said. "We received sniping trainings, work of special units
especially as part of what they call the fight against terror. We learned how to put siege,
how to break into places where our enemies closed themselves in, how to oppress protest
movements, demonstrations and other activities of opposition.
"I'm just telling you the truth," he said. "We applied against Israel all that we learned
from the Americans."

Obama's Official Web Site Equates Israel to Nazi Germany
Organizing for America Web site: "The majority of the Israeli policies are the exact
copies of the Nazi policies"
Barack Obama's official Web site, over which Barack Obama's organization exercises
editorial control, carries an entry that equates Israelis to Nazis and their treatment of
Palestinians to the Holocaust. Emily and her fellow moderators at Obama for America
apparently did not consider an entry that compares Israeli Jews to Nazis as "disrespectful
to our other users and detract from a welcoming community where all people can engage
in positive discourse." Here is the material that Obama for America approved for posting."

“Barack Obama’s Anti-Semitic Website
The site was and is closely policed. The site moderators remove material that they
consider to be “disrespectful to our other users” and to “detract from a welcoming
community where all people can engage in positive discourse.” What they find
disrespectful can be interesting: once during the campaign a conservative blogger, Bill
Levinson, posted a blog on Obama’s website consisting entirely of a series of quotations
from Obama’s own book, Dreams of my Father. Obama’s team did not approve of their
standard-bearer’s words, and so Levinson’s blog and account were deleted from the
Obama site in just under 36 hours. That’s right, Barack Obama’s website banned
Obama’s own words. But the most disgusting anti-semitic ravings remained on the site,
along with blogs advocating anarchy and the overthrow of the United States Congress."

“Obama using 'blood libel' report to pressure Jewish state
TEL AVIV – Senior Palestinian Authority officials told WND the Obama administration
offered their group guarantees that the U.S. would pressure Israel over a Palestinian state
in exchange for the PA's withdrawal of support for immediate U.N. action over an
investigation claiming Israel committed war crimes.

The PA officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, told WND the guarantees include
pressing Israel to agree to a two-year timetable to negotiate a Palestinian state set along
the pre-1967 lines – meaning a state in the Gaza Strip, West Bank and eastern sections of
Jerusalem.

The officials said the Obama administration hopes to set the timetable publicly before
March. They said Obama's Mideast envoy, George Mitchell, presented the timetable to
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in meetings here the past few days.

The PA officials said Mitchell specifically told the Palestinians the Obama administration
will push for a state including much of eastern Jerusalem.
"Mitchell told us not to be worried about what happened in Jabel Mukabar. It was just a
ceremony and won't create any facts on the ground," one senior PA official told WND.”

“At the UN, the Obama administration backs limits on free speech.
At the UN, the Obama administration backs limits on free speech.
This article, by Anne Bayefsky, originally appeared in The Weekly Standard.
The Obama administration has marked its first foray into the UN human rights
establishment by backing calls for limits on freedom of expression. The newly-minted American policy was rolled out at the latest session of the UN Human Rights
Council, which ended in Geneva on Friday. American diplomats were there for the first time as full Council members and intent on making friends.
President Obama chose to join the Council despite the fact that the Organization of the
Islamic Conference holds the balance of power and human rights abusers are among its
lead actors, including China, Cuba, and Saudi Arabia. Islamic states quickly interpreted
the president's penchant for "engagement" as meaning fundamental rights were now up
for grabs. Few would have predicted, however, that the shift would begin with America's
most treasured freedom."

Just like the maoist in the White House, there are always people who despise success in the face of adversity.

Since time began the jewish people have honored education. Learning is the goal. No matter how they were banned from the marketplace, they focused on learning.

From education comes a way to survive, and survive they did.

Israel is a shining example of what perseverance and dedication can mean to a people and a country.

Sorry for the ramble but I see no other reason for this scapegoating in the modern era.

Excluding of course, the jews killed Christ mantra that is nearly non existent in this day and age.

Passing that dedication to learning on to their children no matter how impossible it seemed is why there are so many jewish Nobel prize winners. Real accomplishments, not the Obama kind.

The article missed the #1 reason - The Jewish people is the favored people of God. Because of this, they are hated and reviled by the ‘world’. Those who are called by His Name (and therefor, are called Christians), should bless Israel, and the Jewish people; which is not what happens in this fallen, ever more depraved world.

10% of Mexico's citizens live in the United States, about 40% of them we invited in and let them stay. Look at the anger we true patriots all feel at being occupied by foreigners who take more than they give....

380,000 Israeli citizens have moved out of Israel and now live in Palestine. Set aside all the rhetoric and hatred and killing by the extremists on both sides, how should even peace-desiring Palestinians feel?

There may never be peace, but stability means drawing lines and respecting them.
