In mid-May, Portland police Officer James Crooker went to Southeast Portland on a patrol call. With a few minutes to spare, he decided to get a coffee.
So, he popped into the Red & Black cafe on Southeast 12th Avenue near Oak Street, bought a coffee and was heading out when a customer approached him, saying she appreciates the hard job that police officers do every day in Portland.
One of the co-owners of the cafe, John Langley, has another point of view. While the officer and customer were chatting, he walked up and asked Crooker to leave, saying he felt uncomfortable having a uniformed officer in the vegan cafe.

While I’m not a fan of the political vegans, there are people who survive as adults on vegan meals, there are TONS of substitutes for meat and dairy products now, and even meat-eaters like myself take vitamins to supplement our requirements.
Also, there are people called vegetarians who eat dairy and eggs and you would NOT have to eat meat to get the proteins and other nutrients you can get from dairy and eggs.
Again, I don’t like a lot of the radical leftist vegan types but I think it would be wrong to totally exclude her from the menu. Would you exclude a Jew by putting pork in everything or someone with food allergies with whatever made them react? Some people are against cruelty and exploitation of animals and though I think it is carried to an absurd extreme, I don’t think it’s a particularly evil ideology either (if separated from the leftist garbage.) Keep in mind that the Jainists of India, at least the most devout, are themselves vegan or vegetarian, so it need not be political.
I hope that extends to the times he's robbed or vandalized as well.
Otherwise, he's the biggest hypocrite around. Oh wait, he's a liberal.....
What I always find ironic is that most “anarchists” wouldn’t last 3 days in a truly anarchist sociciety...
Won’t SERVE the police again?? Well no doubt, the ACLU would be right on the case!!!! BWAHAHAHA
“While the officer and customer were chatting, he walked up and asked Crooker to leave, saying he felt uncomfortable having a uniformed officer in the vegan cafe.”
I think he wears pink panties.

"Hello, 911? Someone just heaved a brick through our front window."
"What's your address, sir?"
"I'm at the Red and Black Cafe on SE 12th."
"I see. Well, unfortunately, I'm afraid we're not very comfortable with having a uniformed officer in a vegan cafe."

Interesting the comments. There are a bunch of 5 star comments that all sound like they were written by the same person. They all sound alike.
What came through pretty clearly was that the officer was in uniform and the establishment didn’t have any problem with him walking in and taking his money before kicking him out.
What a bunch of money grubbing ingrates.
If they had any principles, they would have not been so eager to take his money.
IT would be rude not to grant these comrades a thorough fisking.
They didn't refuse service. They kicked him out after taking his money.
If she's vegan, all you have to do is make sure there's milk or eggs in the desserts.
I have read through this thread and note that almost everyone has something uncharitable to say about Portland, vegans and the Red & Black. I don’t know where the Red & Black is and I’m certainly not a vegan but in fairness you need to understand that the Portland police have earned a reputation for shooting first and asking for ID afterward. They are not highly regarded within the city. Google “Kyle Nice Portland Police” for an introduction to the ‘other side.’
I know, I know, most of the police are good guys with only a few bad apples. I fully understand that, but here in Portland we seem to either have a preponderance of bad apples or a dearth of good guys with enough balls to keep the bad ones in check. I no longer call the police. Instead, I call on my neighbors. I can trust them.
I'm sure this town has a no-smoking in restaurants and coffee shops ordinance, and these vegans love that law, but who are they gonna call when someone lights up a big stinky stogie in their shop? Their democrat congressman?
BTW if there are any Portland Freepers who smoke cigars, I think there there may be a coffee shop in Portland who won't be calling the cops on you if you choose to smoke an old smelly stogie.
I wish a gay, black, Muslim cop would visit this cafe and sit at a table.
I just saw this story on the local news....in Bangor, Maine!
I tuned in late and was wondering where this happened. My first guess was Berkeley, California. Hmmm.....Portland, Oregon.....not much difference.
LOL!
Cool. Now everyone knows where to go to avoid the cops. That should be good for business, LOL.
Sure is. They proudly post the anarchy symbol on their website.

I guess these drug-addled pukes don't understand that REAL anarchists despise all symbols. Go Figure.
