The world is outraged at Israel's blockade of Gaza. Turkey denounces its illegality, inhumanity, barbarity, etc. The usual U.N. suspects, Third World and European, join in. The Obama administration dithers.
But as Leslie Gelb, former president of the Council on Foreign Relations, writes, the blockade is not just perfectly rational, it is perfectly legal. Gaza under Hamas is a self-declared enemy of Israel -- a declaration backed up by more than 4,000 rockets fired at Israeli civilian territory. Yet having pledged itself to unceasing belligerency, Hamas claims victimhood when Israel imposes a blockade to prevent Hamas from arming itself with still more rockets.
In World War II, with full international legality, the United States blockaded Germany and Japan. And during the October 1962 missile crisis, we blockaded ("quarantined") Cuba. Arms-bearing Russian ships headed to Cuba turned back because the Soviets knew that the U.S. Navy would either board them or sink them. Yet Israel is accused of international criminality for doing precisely what John Kennedy did: impose a naval blockade to prevent a hostile state from acquiring lethal weaponry.
Oh, but weren't the Gaza-bound ships on a mission of humanitarian relief? No. Otherwise they would have accepted Israel's offer to bring their supplies to an Israeli port, be inspected for military materiel and have the rest trucked by Israel into Gaza -- as every week 10,000 tons of food, medicine and other humanitarian supplies are sent by Israel to Gaza.

What is perfectly acceptable and understandable actions of any other nation is somehow an unconscionable act if it is done by Israel.
Other nations have a right to self defense. According to the UN, Israel has the obligation to die.

What you obviously don’t understand is that Israel is not just a piece of land where Jews built a country.
The Land of Israel is intrinsic to Judaism.
It’s not a perfect comparison but it should help you understand, Jews giving up on the Land of Israel and Jerusalem would be like Christians denying the Cross.
It is warped liberal thinking to point out that those who hate Israel apply a different standard of conduct, law, and the rules of war to Israel that they do not seek to apply in any other circumstance?
If they claimed the Cuban Missile Crisis embargo was illegal I might think they were at least slightly consistent in calling Israels blockade illegal.
If they demanded Turkey give a homeland to the Kurds I might think they were principled nationalists when insisting the ‘Palestinians’ be given a homeland.
I wouldn't agree with them, but at least I would think they were not motivated almost entirely by hatred of Jewish people.
But they don't, so I can only conclude that their motivation is the aforementioned animosity.

Just thinking out loud, but it is America and Americans (Christians and Jews) that make Jerusalem Jewish again (and alive again).
You have raised an interesting point.
IMHO, this puzzle has just taken on a new complexion...thx to you.
Now we need to determine what it is about Jerusalem that the enemy finds so powerful...so attractive.
From reviewing history, it seems the enemy thought for a while that the sacrifice of Jewish lives would activate the power of Jerusalem. Hitler and his final solution proved that didn't work.
There must be another answer.
