BP is attempting to plug the damn hole!
(Excerpt) Read more at mxl.fi ...
BP plane all along was to use at a producing well thats why they wanted to start with this first
Is that fire coming out the top?
I would think that a better way would have been to work with the flow instead of trying to work against it.
I shamelessly and unrepentently stole that hilarious picture.
Am I seeing a fire down there? Is that possible?
The collection device (LMRP) is yellow and the oil flowing by it likes like flames. I had to take a double take myself when i saw the small vid.
I don’t think it has ever looked more violent. Been watching on an off since the vid was made available.
How can there be a fire down there? Is there enough oxygen?
Thanks. I didn’t think fire could burn without O2 below that much water.
“looks like flames”
methane gas interacting with water looks like a fire.
I think the thing is vented at the top and then they close the vents when everything is ready to take oil into the hoses to the ship.
THis may be one of the most amazing things I have seen. Not perfect but will recover oil and lessen the amount going into the gulf sugnificantly if it works.
Awsome, thanks
Ditto that!! (With obama being the first one in)
It’s an enormous milestone to have set that cap so easily, and on the first try!
From what I can see on the videos, there are at least 2 large (3”??) bronze ball valves on top of the cap that are gushing oil. In my unexperienced view these appear to be a couple of bypass valves, and one of the ROVs is latched onto the valve stem and appears to be ready to close it.
I would guess that since this is the first chance they have had to directly measure output and pressure, some of that is going on, as well as proceeding very slowly, cautiously, and deliberately. So far so good, and once they can get all of their systems checked out and running they may have a shot at controlling this bastard...
Does the LMRP have a ball valve or something or is this not actually designed to stop the flow?
Helen's image can turn flesh to stone, so surely it can turn gushing oil to concrete.......
Amen, FRiend.
It is an amazing sight indeed. I never knew about the methane gas and water interaction. Fascinating.
i hope they don’t break the riser valve off at the sea floor.
I think that is the dispersant they're releasing at the same time.
