Did Al Gore's Success Kill His Marriage? Psychologists Say Couple's Break-up Defied Odds By KIMBERLY BROWN

June 3, 2010 —

News of the breakup of the 40-year marriage of former Vice President Al Gore and his wife, Tipper, has left many speculating about what caused the split, and still more wondering whether any marriage is safe.

"Suddenly our image of marriages that can work has crashed," said Marion Solomon, a psychologist in Los Angeles. "We have an idea that there are some people that are happy. That it is possible to be happily married in the public eye. ... If they're getting a divorce, can any marriage work?"

The odds are actually pretty good for a couple who tied the knot around 1970, when the Gores were married. Only about 15 percent of marriages dating to that time had broken up after 15 years, said Bradford Wilcox, director of the National Marriage Project at the University of Virginia. And with every anniversary, the risk of divorce declines.

The Gores' marriage spanned four decades, in which they raised four children and weathered crises that included a 1989 car accident that nearly killed their son, Albert Gore III, an event that reportedly brought on Tipper Gore's bout with major depression. And they not only survived decades lived on the political stage, but they seemed to thrive there. Their passionate kiss at the 2000 Democratic Convention left a lasting and much-discussed impression.

While campaigning for president, Al Gore said in an interview that his wife was "someone I've loved with my whole heart since the night of my high school senior prom."

Success? He's a criminal, a fraud promoting the biggest hoax in history.

Maybe Tipper still has a shred of decency and she doesn't want to live with a guy that Tommy Flannagan would call a liar.

I dunno. I figured Big Al had gone so far over the edge with this looney man-made global warming/cooling/climate change/tiny human creatures destroying this large mass of rock that even Tipper couldn’t take it.

“There is no doubt in my mind that A.G. lost what ever marbles he had left when he lost the Presidential Race. He is/was such a blow hard arrogant self serving member of the “Ruling Class”,he couldn't take the loss. He felt he was entitled.
His super sized ego just couldn't handle it”

What little of Inconvenient “truth” I could stand to watch showed him whining about how he lost the election whenever he could insert a non sequitur comment . He groused about the vote count and how he was “several million” times the man Bush is and he should really be our leader.
(calamity avoided)

Personally, I think Tipper has wanted to divorce AlGore for quite a while. She was just waiting until he moved their mailing address to California where the divorce laws were more favorable.

It's hard for me to imagine that anyone in their right mind could consider the Gores an example of a perfect marriage...but clearly there are some liberals out there ...

If they're getting a divorce, can any marriage work ?

As long as you're not married to Al Gore, probably, yes.

My marriage is certainly shaken by this turn of events. We modeled our marriage on the Gores. We often share awkward public extra-long rape-like kisses, and preach frugality and sustainability while consuming like an Arabic Sultan.

ROTFL !!
