WASHINGTON Film director James Cameron may have another blockbuster on his hands.
Federal officials are hoping Cameron can help them come up with ideas on how to stop the disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, officials said today.
The Avatar and Titanic director was among a group of scientists and other experts who met Tuesday with officials from the Environmental Protection Agency and other federal agencies for a brainstorming session on stopping the massive oil leak.
The Canadian-born Cameron is considered an expert on underwater filming and remote vehicle technologies. Avatar and Titanic are the two highest-grossing films of all time.

Cameron was a philosophy major at Fullerton College and dropped out of Cal State Fullerton after that. He does not hold a degree in physics.

Cause when you think oil leak....you think....James Cameron............. You couldn't put it any better. Asking Cameron for ideas is unbelievably absurd.

I made a slight error. He studied Physics at a college level and ‘had a large educational background in the natural sciences’ according to biographical accounts, but he eventually settled on a Philosophy major. In any case he's been described as “part scientist, part artist”.

How about using David Copperfield, he’s good at making things disappear.

He's no dummy, that's for sure, except when it comes to politics. However, one must take ANYTHING written about Hollywood celebrities with a grain of salt. I suspect that much of the stories of him “designing” devices is a case of specifying features and letting engineers figure out how to make them work.

Where do you see that he got a degree in Physics? Everything I see says he started a physics degree but switched degrees half way through. There are probably 100,000s of people more qualified to be giving input into this problem, including me. But I guess I haven’t directed a movie, so no one asked me to help. Personally, I think its a waste of time and effort to involve him in this. I’m sick of celebrities being elevated to some sort of expert on topics that they know very little about but happened to star in or direct a movie about that topic.

He started out as one of those designers that had to work from specs...and work from cheap as well. The story about him is that he knows everyone’s job on a film set better than they do (except acting which is the one thing he feels he can’t do better than the people he hires to do it).

after all it is the EPA's fault for only issuing deep water drilling permits in their fantasy utopia world
so maybe they can find a solution to the problem they created in their fantasy world

What a total bunch of dumba$$es....why not call in Howdy Doody...?
To bad President Bush couldn’t have had this happen on his watch....having oil patch experience he would have had the right folks in place before sun up the next day. I’m not saying they would have had it closed down in a day or two but you could be assured that experts in deep water exploration would be on the job.
With this bunch of jerks in the WH their ignorance and incompetence on display grows each day.
