May 31, 2010 — Video taken by IDF naval boat shows the passengers of the Mavi Marmara, one of the ships in the 'Free Gaza' Flotilla, violently attacking IDF soldiers who were trying to board the ship after having sent repeated requests for the boat to change course.
Large groups of passengers surrounded soldiers and beat them with metal poles and chairs, and threw one soldier over the side of the ship. Some passengers grabbed pistols from the IDF soldiers and opened fire. As a result of the attacks, seven IDF soldiers were injured, and nine of the passengers were killed.
The 'Free Gaza' Flotilla had publicly insisted on their non-violent intentions, however their violent attack on the IDF soldiers was clearly premeditated. They had knives, metal rods, firebombs and other items ready to use.

They should shoot the attackers and throw them over board then sink the ship. Make a example of what happens when you attack Isreal in their waters.
Yes. It was good that Israel had cameras on the helmets of their men. They have footage on the ship during the scuffle.
When a mob of men were beating the IDF guy with bats as he lay on the floor, his fellow solider was shooting them with paint pellets! You can see his gun is a paint gun. I think that shows some serious restraint.
At some point it must have escalated to live ammo. Obviously not all the video is, or will be, made available. Israel likely has confiscated everything, hopefully they will release more footage.
Those guys got some stones going down that rope into that mess.
A grenade woulda been useful to clear the landing zone.

Question is, would they have done the same attack during daytime? I doubt it.
Well I think Israel will not be so harmed politically or diplomatically as initially claimed. Now that people can see that the “peace protestors” were really very violent and continued to beat the solider with bats and rods even after he was subdued and knocked down shows this wasn’t entirely a peace mission and that Israel was right about the type of people organizing (Israel claimed the main group were terrorist supporters).

I was thinking about a book I just read very recently... it is C. S. Lewis’ book, “The Problem of Pain.” What comes to my mind from this and so much else that is going on is how everyone is working to effect God’s ultimate purposes. Some of us are working with God to effect His purposes and some are working of their own will and strength and mind, but whether they realize it or not, His purposes are sovereign and will prevail. This is why no matter what befalls us, I maintain my hope because I know how it all works in the end.

No they wouldn’t have done it at day. But clearly this was not a peace mission. Many of the men obviously had very strong opinions and affiliations and an affinity for violence. They chose to fight when they knew they couldn’t win and this is the result. They wanted to break the blockade and if they couldn’t they wanted a fight.
Turkey should be booted from NATO. Should NATO have to defend Turkey if Turkey decides to start battling with Israel? Should the US have to attack Israel because of Turkish infantilism?
