A young man wrongly identified by a witness as a participant in a bar brawl flees from fatigue-clad cops who were persuing him and who may or may not have identified themselves as police officers. In a disturbing video available at the link, this young man is shoved against a wall where he suffers an injury that leaves him severely brain damaged.
The article is a couple weeks old but I didn't see it posted here when I ran across it while looking for something.
Just a sad story all the way around.
Wow, looked like excessive force to me. The guy didn’t look like a threat, but the deputy launched into him like a linebacker.
The victim here is backing away, and raising his hands in a woefully inadequate defensive gesture.
He clearly was no threat.
This is police brutality.
This is a felony battery.
Verbal ID is not much good in my mind. They should have had on something on to loudly ID them as POLICE.
That said, the actions of the cop in this case were not too outrageous. It is just unfortunate they led to great injury. I do think the actions were those of a control freak upset someone did not stop the second they control freak demanded, but that is what you are bound to get in policing.
Another fine cop bashing post here on FR. I see the FR Police Tactics experts have chimed in and offered sound arguments on how a man running from the Police (yes, it is obvious they are cops and did ID themselves as witnesses say)who had his hands in his pocket and removed them a SPLIT SECOND before he was tackled is somehow a victim of Police Brutality. That term gets thrown around so much that I doubt most Cop bashers don’t even know what it is.
Hey Cop Bashers, how about giving Cops the benefit of the doubt for a change instead of pre judging them? I know I’m wasting my time. Just wanted to have my say.
It is clear these cops have not even had a basic first aid course, or if they have, had too low of an IQ for it to stick.
The cops are on the mental level of a career fry cook. Burger flippers with badges.
The young man was not running away. He was looking back a moving away from the police. The police in this case were at fault and I usually side with the police.
This happened in a city run by liberals? My oh my, I’m shocked!
Even if they get every cent of that 25 million it wont be enough.
That's an outright lie by the reporter. The video clearly shows the officers were wearing common police officer uniforms with their badges clearly visible on their chests and insignias on their sleeves, and gun belts around their waists.
The guy was clearly running from them, dropped something from his hand, moved toward the cop, and raised his hands toward the cop before he was knocked down. It's tragic that he chose to run, was positioned where he was relative to the wall, and that he was misidentified. None of which was the cop's fault.
Fumb-ducker ran from the police. Fatigue clad should have been enough of a hint, unless you are blind drunk. The bar patrons weren’t fatigue clad, were they. Did he ever think about staying there like a citizen? Personal responsibility and citizen duty are no longer part of the progressive culture. I have to wonder exactly what crime he was committing that made him decide to avoid the police.
Big bad kops...Tough guys...Hulk Hogan wannabes...They need to pay for a long, long time...
I wish I was on the jury...
Damn. No way that that level of force was required.
I watched the video and read the story. If that full on body slam into a wall is what now constitutes acceptable police tactics in this country, then I am living in the wrong POLICE STATE.
I think that a point that EVERYONE is missing is this young wife's dedication to her husband. That, in itself, is amazing. Catastrophic brain injury aside... imagine how lucky this young man is to have such a wife.
Just another example of folks who got picked on in high school becoming Cops and thinking they are actually NAVY Seals and this is Tora Bora
The video makes it look like this guy was just walking along when he gets hit with a 250lb sack of donuts and propelled into a wall.
If in reality there was a 2 1/2 block foot chase leading up to it, that’s different. This guy comes from the same direction as the cop that hit him, and was slowing down and turning to face the cop while bringing up his hands for some unknown purpose.
Lots of physics involved, not a lot of reaction time and probably not MENSA-level IQs on either side.
I feel sorry for the injured guy but once the chase is on it usually ends with a faceplant. This one just involved a wall first.
Hmmm, they are living at Summit Lake, a gorgeous place (I live west of there by about 40 miles) and drive past it two or three times a month. I’ll keep these people in my prayers.
A horrible tragic accident all the way around.
