1 year after officer tackled him, man is bedridden, wife is caretaker
Seattle Times ^ | 16 May 10 | Sara Jean Green

OLYMPIA — Sarah Harris goes through the motions of her day trying hard not to think about what life was like a year ago — or what it would be like now if not for "the incident."

She feels guilty leaving the house, even if only for a couple of hours to visit her mom or sister, to run errands, or go grocery shopping. She still cries every night.

Her husband, the first boy she kissed and the only man she's ever loved, suffered a catastrophic brain injury when his head slammed into a concrete wall after a brief footchase with two King County sheriff's deputies on Mother's Day 2009. He's now confined to bed, unable to talk, walk or do anything for himself.

Christopher Sean Harris spent six weeks at Harborview Medical Center, where his family was encouraged to remove him from life support because doctors didn't think he'd ever come out of a coma. But he did, and was transferred to an Edmonds nursing home in June.

Sarah Harris, who worked as a manager for Nordstrom and dreamed of becoming a buyer for the department store, gave up her job to care for her husband.

"I loved my job, and I miss it all the time," she said. "But I knew there was no way I could go back to work and leave him alone in a nursing home all day. There was no decision to even make."

What was he charged with? That seems to be missing from the story.

You would be surprised of the number of “New” posters who join only to disrupt. We see it all the time around here.

The link CLEARLY shows the officer is not twice his size, and also CLEARLY shows the runner pulling his hand out of his pocket and it also CLEARLY shows he was not body slammed, MORON.

Yeah sure, that is why nobody thinks the cop's actions were inappropriate. Fool.

Keep licking jack boot. You seem to like the taste of leather so much. We have a country ruled by steroid fueled ex-jocks that get a thrill out of beating people up and a certain segment of the populace that gets their jollies watching shows like "Cops". It's like police porn.

We also expect that judgment to be guided by an attitude of public service and protection of the innocent.

Absolutely. But the suspect in this case wasn't innocent. He disobeyed a lawful order to stop, ran, and probably disobeyed other orders we couldn't hear in the video. He also had something in his pocket that was another crime in all likelihood. All things you don't want to discuss for an obvious reason. You also don't want to discuss the actions the suspect took and didn't take that makes him primarily responsible for the condition he is in.

Dude is seen on camera tossing packet from pocket just prior to being caught.

You can bet the cops would've loved to have found drugs on this guy, found anything that would've mitigated their actions even just a little bit. But the fact remains that there was no evidence of any wrongdoing on the part of Mr. Harris. If he threw something out of his pocket, nobody bothered to pick it up or make mention of it in official reports.

So you (and others) can keep speculating and accusing Harris of buying drugs. There is no evidence that this is what happened.

You may be right. He could have been soliciting a prostitute and that was a condom he tossed away ...

Dude pays buddy $60 to drive him from Olympia to Seattle in the wee hours of the morning after getting off from his minimum wage night shift.

Dude is spotted in a dark alley in Seattle (Bellevue) and is ordered to stop (possible suspect in a fight)

Dude runs

Dude is seen on camera tossing packet from pocket just prior to being caught.

People who look up registration dates have troubling issues.

It means they have nothing left to their argument.

Was your mother working the alley that night?

We used to use that type of line when we were 5 years old. Fortunately some of us grew up.

So where's the packet he tossed? I see him drop something on the ground and the officer steps on it. They didn't pick it up? Or, most likely, they saw that whatever he dropped was not evidence of any illegal activity so they left it on the street.

If it were drugs, why didn't the cops pick it up? Why didn't they mention it? Don't you think they'd prefer the story "Mr. Harris ran after purchasing drugs, drugs which were recovered at the scene of his injury" as opposed to the current story, "Investigators later determined that Harris wasn't involved in the brawl, or a later fight at the convenience store.

So, keep saying he threw drugs on the ground. We'll never know. The cops certainly appear on the video to have not been too concerned with whatever it was Mr. Harris dropped on the ground.

They were more concerned about his injury than collecting evidence. It is obvious on the film that the cop was distraught over what he had done.

Pardon me, n00b, but what evidence do you have that it was drugs that this guy threw on the ground? If you don’t have direct evidence it was drugs, then I would encourage you to look up the word ‘libel’.

Thats direct evidence?! Thats conjecture, n00b. Provide the police report that says drugs were seized at the site. Cops do not leave drugs lying on the sidewalk, no matter how ‘distraught’ they are.

Again, blow up the video. Its a crumpled ball of paper. Maybe it was a receipt from the bar he was at. Either way, your post at 247 doesn't prove squat. You are going to have to do better than that.

Have you looked up the word ‘libel’ yet? Don't think so, because you are still engaged in it.

And all this is mere conjecture. You have not one iota of evidence that he was in anyway, shape or form involved with drugs. Nor, apparently, did the cops involved. Had they HAD such evidence, do you suppose they’d have hesitated one nanosecond to charge him? So that they could then “justify” the action of the moron who assaulted and attacked him? You bet they would’ve. That they didn’t speaks volumes against your conjecture, doesn’t it?

Moving the goalposts. This is the first time in the three posts you used the word 'direct'.
