Alabama Governor: Race Still Wide Open
Rasmussen Reports ^ | May 28, 2010

Posted on 05/28/2010 5:23:42 PM PDT by Clintonfatigued

Alabama’s gubernatorial contest remains wide open, with no candidate in either party earning 50% support from the state’s voters. Both Democratic hopefuls trail three of the top Republicans in the race again this month but run neck-and-neck if former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore is the GOP contender.

The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters shows former State Senator Bradley Byrne is the Republican who comes closest to the 50% mark. Byrne leads Democratic Congressman Artur Davis 47% to 33%.

how about Tim James?? anyone know?

All Tim has ever done is live off daddy’s money and connections.

There is no way any of us could have built a toll bridge into Orange Beach unless we had the political connections that he does.

Timmy has never accomplished anything on his own. Remember that he wanted to make Bayou La Batre a resort community with high rise condos? Thankfully he didn’t have the state’s money to whizz away at that time. It was about the only idea I ever heard from the man.

Timmy thinks he should start at the top ... governor. He’s never done anything to be at the top. All he’s ever done is make commericals to run for governor every four years.

I am not excited about Byrne but he’s better than James.

Authur Davis is a barack wannabe. He’s been running toward the center since he knows he wants to be governor. However, he’s not really in the center. He’s extreme left just like obama.

He’s a repub. for convenience or in other words in name only. :) Bentley is the best option.

Check the Rasmussen polls. This guy trails nearly all the republican candidates.

Tim James has the backing of the teachers union, and the leader of said union, a dimocrat. He is getting money from dim backers by the thousands. His daddy was once a dimocrat and changed sides also. His daddy was a huge taxer. Twice within about 3 to 5 years he wanted a 5 cent gas to fix roads and bridges. To date, both still stink, and we still have the 10cent tax. His pappy was a dirt ball in my opinion. People say Byrne is a RINO. But, I will take him over a dimocrat backed person. James in the Rasmussen polls is the one that the dims think they can beat. They trail Byrne by double digets in the polls. Judge Moore is trailing the dims in those polls. I don't think, that he can win the election. Those thinking the black dim will win are wrong. Alabama will not vote for a Obama clone. Ain't gonna happen. Not in this state. And it has NOTHING too do with him being black. I would vote for a solid conservative black before a liberal white guy any day. People will not elect a black dimocrat because they do not want an Obama running this state. Nothing too do with race, but the dims will say it was all about race in racists conservative Alabama.

Sorry, you just lied. Bradley Byrne has been a Republican for near 15 years and switched to the Republican Party when when it still had virtually no power in the state.

20 years ago you had to be a Democrat to get elected to any office outside of Jefferson, Shelby or Winston counties.

Byrne is a strong conservative and is our best hope of beating Ron Sparks.

Once again, complete bull. When Byrne began in politics you couldn’t get elected as a Republican in most of the state. The fact that he switched in 1996 and not 2006 is the barometer of how conservative he is.

If he were really this “liberal trying to pose as a conservative” that you claim he is then he would not have switched in 1996 when Dems still controlled almost all state offices, the entirety of the legislature and all but maybe 3 county governments in the state.

Bradley Byrne switched parties for the same reason we all did. We saw that the Democrats no longer represented the conservative values of this state and we reacted accordingly.

And as for Tim James. If we’re going to talk about support for Democrats in the past, Tim James played major roles in statewide Democratic campaigns in 1986 and 1990.

I voted for Byrne too. If the teacher’s union is supporting you, you’re in their back pocket.

Bradley Byrne took on corruption in the JUCO system in Alabama and even dared take on corrupt black politicians in the JUCO system. Even though I worry about party switchers like our US Senator, I am willing to give anyone who takes on such corruption a pass. So I voted for Byrne.

Byrne gave money to the Clinton Campaign (Bill)...do you need anything more than that?

“But she says Artur Davis will have all the black vote and it will be hard for any Republican to beat him.”

Nonsense. ALL democrats ALWAYS get ALL (95%) of the black vote.

The democrat party is a damaged goods party in Alabama.... a good republican can beat ANY democrat....this country(and this state) has seen ALL it wants to see of the democrat party.

He is smart as a whip as well. James did everything he could think of to beat him. Hope it doesn’t work. Byrne cleaned up the two-year college mess. He got my vote and will get my vote in the runoff.

Byrne will get my vote in the run-off as well. He is the ONLY candidate out there to stand up to the corrupt teacher’s union. They are so frightened of him they spent $1.4 million in negative advertising against him.

Neither Bentley nor James will stand up to Hubbert. James grew up calling Hubbert “Uncle Paul” and Bentley has publicly stated that he will not take Hubbert on.

I hope the James folks don’t gang up on him. Byrne did great except up here in north AL. They all seam to like Bentley. Bentley supposedly has friends in the corrupt teacher’s union as well. I met all of them but James.
