I am told that skipping the mudd satge and going stright to the sea water filler has been done many many times and without a blowout, because the depth pressure at 5000 feet deep is so great. This particular well hit a pocket of gas-heavy crude under much greater than average pressures for deep wells. ... But the reason ofr precautions and step-by-step procedures is to avoid just such ‘man-made’ disasters as this one. [As ex.: airliners have a list of things they are reguired to check prior to takeoff. Skipping parts of the list isn’t going to be disaterous every time, but it only takes one mechanical failure which could have been predicted via the check list ...]

The flow of OIL and GAS has stopped, due to the injection of ‘mud’. What you see coming out of the leaks is this ‘mud’ which is forcing the oil/gas back down the bore of the well.

This flow of mud will continue until the cement is injected. Which has not been done yet.

Yes, that was the point. It is a screen capture from 11 days ago. Compare it to what's on the live video. Almost no difference.

Crude is, after all, a natural material. Not like chemicals that have been processed. IMHO, we have more to worry about from plastics than from the spill, because it take so long for it to break down.
