Christie to teacher: You can quit By: Andy Barr May 26, 2010 03:00 PM EDT
New Jersey GOP Gov. Chris Christie told a disgruntled teacher that if she doesnt like the pay, she doesnt have to do it.
Christie was speaking to a small crowd in a church gymnasium in Rutherford on Tuesday when the Bergen County Record caught the exchange between Kearny teacher Rita Wilson and the governor.
Wilson claimed that if she were getting paid only three dollars an hour for the 30 students she teaches, her salary would be $83,000 a year, a much higher sum than her current take.
Youre getting more than that if you include the cost of your benefits, Christie pointed out.
The teacher responded by saying that she has a masters degree and that her current salary isnt compensating her for the value of her higher education as well as her experience.
To that, the governor responded: Well, you know then that you dont have to do it.

After reading this, I’ve got that Chris Matthews tingle going up my leg again . . . .
CHRISTIE for PRESIDENT!!
LMFAO!
I really like this guy!
I know how you feel.
“If you experience an erection that lasts longer than four hours ...”
Remember when we all though Christie was a RINO?
The amazing thing is that he is doing this without actually cutting anything. Simply freezing will take care of a lot of issues.........but not the core problem.
But I just started reading up on Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports and realize, yet again, the rabbit hole goes much deeper than most realize.
It’s about time somebody told it like it is...
Christie is going to give me “multiple matthews”.
True dat.
Can we draft this man to be POTUS in 2012?
SILENCE THAT MAN!!!!!!!
He is confusing the sheeple!!!!
This is what leadership looks like. This is what a public servant ought to do -- just tell people how it is.
A politician may be able to build a long and comfortable career by telling people what they want to hear (ex. Ted Kennedy) but the country needs politicians who really want to govern, not just get re-elected. (And on the plus side, I think Christie's approach may actually please enough people that he will get re-elected.)
We haven’t had a fat president since Taft.
Now with upwards of 60% of Americans obese, it is time to have a president who truly represents the people!
He certainly has a soft spot for illegals/amnesty & NJ style gun control.
And when we all thought Scott Brown wasn't?
Reminds me of a conversation with our History teacher back when I was in high school. He’d directed the discussion to a pending strike by teachers for higher pay. After asking something about how could it be fair that teachers were paid so little for so much, I naively asked if they didn’t know the pay when they were hired. He said “Exactly!” and I got the best grade I’ve ever gotten on a history discussion. It was the point he was trying to bring out. :-)
Were she to quit, there are many who covet her job. I am always amazed at how many college aged kids are majoring in Elementary Ed. In our area, there are no jobs in that field, but they don’t seem to care.
Oops. Christie told the teacher the bold face truth. She’s not used to that. This may very well put her on permanent disability.
