NEW YORK (AP) -- After hours of contentious public comment, a New York City community board voted late Tuesday to support a plan to build a mosque and cultural center near ground zero.
"It's a seed of peace," board member Rob Townley said. "We believe that this is significant step in the Muslim community to counteract the hate and fanaticism in the minority of the community."

NYC community boards have no power. They were created to give people the feeling that they were deciding things when they really weren’t.
Moreover, the Manhattan Borough President appoints the members, so naturally the members are going to promote their own future membership by kowtowing to Scott Stringer.
This vote shows nothing except how suicidally liberal this whole town is.
Those who want to fight this mosque had better join with Pam Geller and SOIA (see above) and get themselves to the demonstration on June 6.

The vote was 29-to-1 in favor of the plan, with 10 abstentions.
Only one didn’t forget.
