Rand Paul, riding the momentum of his big Republican Primary win on Tuesday, now posts a 25-point lead over Democrat Jack Conway in Kentuckys U.S. Senate race, but theres a lot of campaigning to go.
A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in Kentucky, taken Wednesday night, shows Paul earning 59% of the vote, while Conway picks up 34% support. Four percent (4%) percent prefer some other candidate, and three percent (3%) are undecided.

“Can Rand Paul defeat Jack Conway?
Can Rand Paul win the general election? Paul easily won in a Republican primary in which voters were both very conservative and anti-establishment. Now he will enter a general election against an experienced opponent, state Attorney General Jack Conway, who won a close primary Tuesday and will be helped by national Democrats who view Paul as a potentially weak candidate.”

We’ll see if Rand can avoid “Macaca”-ing himself.
No kidding.
Hey, Graveyard -- looks like your boy, the liberal Democrat Jack Conway, is down 25 points right out of the gate.
How do you like them apples?
Isn’t amazing what happens when you really stand on principle, articulate those principles effectively, and don’t appologize for them. Rand Paul says what he wants to cut out of government, he doesn’t hide from his positions like they are a dirty secret. He is just a good candidate and he is speaking to the people from where they are not from Washington. Every Republican should be running against Washington and a government that is strangling America.
The fact is Rand Paul got the most votes in a GOP primary in Kentucky ever.
You are correct. The MSM has blood in the water for Rand Paul. He is safely ahead, but he needs top-notch media coaching. Any gaffe could kill him.
This race needs to be about Obama and the Democratic majority in Congress, not about Rand Paul. This is the key to victory.
Because Rand won his in a blow out while the Dem race was very very hotly contested. You read too much into this.
I wish every state had closed primaries.
They are both Libertarian
Well, them, and about 60% of all Kentucky Republicans.
Paul beat Grayson by almost 2-to-1, crushing Grayson amongst self-described Conservatives and Moderates and losing to him only amongst self-described Liberals.
Suffice it to say, Rand Paul is the overwhelming choice of Kentucky Republicans to represent the great State of Kentucky in the US Senate. So I guess the only question I have is, do YOU support the 2010 Republican US Senate nominee for Kentucky?
Or would you rather that Jack Conway took the seat?
Expressing deep lack of confidence in Washington GOP leadership. As did the Democrats in Pennsylvania. Voter’s rebellion. Why? Methinks it’s the PACs that call the tune in Washington and they ain’t about the people’s business. Neither party wants to tackle jobs, immigration, budget.
The other night on FOX, even Charles K spouted this line. He deried the Tea party as stupid for rallying Paul to victory on grounds that he would lose in the general whereas Grayson would not.
"Even Charles K?" Why are you surprised? Krauthammer is a long time neoconservative (heck, he supported Democrats until the 1980s), loves nation-building wars, and the national security state. He despised Paul on these issues. It would have been a surprise if the sainted Charles K. had taken another position.
I guess the real question that I have is how does Rand stand on the wars and on 9/11?
Favors continuing the war in Afghanistan, opposes continuing the war in Iraq, favors Military Tribunals for Terror suspects at Guantanamo.
So, compared to most Pro-War Republicans at this time, you could say he's 2 outta 3. Pro-War Republicans may not find him to be "perfect" on this issue; but will probably find much more with which to agree with him on Pro-Life, Gun Rights, Fiscal Conservatism, and Border Security issues.
Yes to your second point. I have supported young politicians in the past that have said things that get blown up because they were conservative.
I still have some reservations about Paul's (alleged)association with some of the more “wing-nut” fringes, but if he can keep his foot out of his mouth and stay on message he should do fine.
Closed primaries full of formerly yellow-dog-Democrats-turned-Republicans. People voted in the primary they were legally able to vote in.
nitpicking here, but Kentucky is a Commonwealth.
