San Francisco Chronicle ^ | May 17, 2010

Non-citizen immigrants whose children are enrolled in San Francisco public schools would be able to vote in school board elections, under a proposed charter amendment for the fall ballot that Board of Supervisors President David Chiu will introduce Tuesday.

A lot of non-citizens (illegal aliens) vote all of over the country already, hence voter fraud.

I would not be particularly opposed to this idea provided the non-citizen immigrant provided both a valid green card and driver's license to show legal status. School board elections are not necessarily political (although in big cities they are invariably political).

If non-citizen legal immigrants were given the right to vote in school board elections, this could theoretically dilute the power of the teachers unions. Legal immigrants tend to be much more conservative than illegals or those who support rights for illegals.

They call it Revolution. They worship Chavez and Castro.

Why don’t we skip all the b*llsh*t and just hand them our car and house keys in exchange for pup tents. That’s where its all headed anyway.

I'm pretty sure that when I was growing up, legal immigrants (i.e., people here on a green card) were allowed to vote for the town budgets and school board elections in the town/city where they lived.

And, really, that makes sense. They are legally in the country, they are contributing to society, and they probably do send their kids to the local schools. Why not let them have a say?

No, I'm series.

School board elections are presumably for the benefit of the students, and legal immigrants have children too. I certainly would not favor letting illegal immigrants vote on anything, but legal immigrants (the ones who played by the rules to get here) are generally more patriotic than 5th generation Americans, especially in a place like San Francisco.

Local elections are controlled by local rules.

If a locality wants to expand the privilege to include legal immigrants, then the locality has the right.

The 10th amendment (FWIW) allows local governments control over their own elections and destinies.

The point is that those here LEGALLY, are already allowed to vote!

This proposal would only affect ILLEGAL, undocumented families and it would actually work to the advantage of the unions: they are the ones lying and telling the public that they are trying to help the kids and they need to spend more money on ESL and foreign-language based classes, etc... The illegals are going to vote for these idiots EVERY SINGLE TIME!

Bad idea! Register to vote in the state, and you can vote in the local school boards - otherwise, H@LL NO!!!!

“Non-citizen immigrants” As such, they do not pay school taxes. However, while not paying taxes, they get to select who will raise the other folks taxes in the future.
Now that sounds reasonable, does it not?

These people are f’n crazy!!!

GK Chesterton once wrote something along the lines of...

The effect of not believing in God is that you lose your common sense.

(I have a fairly good idea of how many politicians there are in San Francisco who believe in God.) ;-/

Absolutely false. Non-citizen immigrants, those here legally, certainly do pay taxes. They pay income taxes if they are employed, sales taxes if they buy goods, and property taxes if they own a home or (in some states) an automobile.

I had to show ID to vote in today’s Pennsylvania primary. That made me happy.
