Vietnam allegations threaten frontrunning Blumenthal in CT-Senate (blames Republicans for his lies)
Washington Post ^

Posted on 05/17/2010 9:08:59 PM PDT by Chet 99

The New York Times' story detailing Connecticut Attorney General Dick Blumenthal's (D) misstatements about his service in Vietnam -- he received five deferments and never served in the country, according to the paper -- has the potential to fundamentally reshape the Nutmeg State Senate race.

Writes Raymond Hernandez: "What is striking about Mr. Blumenthal's record is the contrast between the many steps he took that allowed him to avoid Vietnam, and the misleading way he often speaks about that period of his life now, especially when he is speaking at veterans' ceremonies or other patriotic events." Oomph.

Blumenthal campaign manager Mindy Myers released a statement late Monday night describing the Times story as "an outrageous distortion" although she did not deny the fact that the candidate had misled people about the nature of his service. Myers noted that Blumenthal will appear at a press conference tomorrow with Connecticut veterans.

Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee communications director Eric Schultz put the blame for the story on Republicans and, in particular, former World Wrestling Entertainment executive Linda McMahon who is running for the GOP nod.

"Its no surprise Republicans would want to smear Dick Blumenthal, considering all of the debauchery at [WWE] under Linda McMahon's watch," said Schultz.

Blumenthal's (D) misstatements

I bet they can't say "lies" because they'd get sued, but it's interesting, if they had to argue this in court, would he be able to say he simply made "misstatements" over and over again? Would he argue insanity?

“... considering all of the debauchery at [WWE] under Linda McMahon’s watch,” said Schultz.”

At the WWE we EXPECT debauchery.

From democrats we expect LIES, and we get them!

"OOMPH"? From a WAPO writer writing about a NY Slimes article detailing a Democrat's "discrepancies"?

WITWW indeed!

So he’s caught lying, and he’s gonna pull “the bitch set me up” defense? How very DNC of him.

by pointing out the guy is lying scum! Maybe she should check with that 'right-wing' NYT's for 'smearing' Dick Blumenthal by reporting his lies about his military record.

He made somebody mad. Usually the word Democrat beside your name is innoculation against anything. There is more here than we see.

During a Lawton Chiles campaign for governor of FL about 20 years ago, he was nailed for having his minions call senior citizens and just flat-out lie about how Republicans were going to take away their Social Security. Actually, I guess they still do that now. :-)

But anyway, testifying under oath about these campaign irregularities, some Democrat weasel admitted to lying but instead of actually calling it 'lying' he referred to them as "purposeful misstatements". I swear.

Naturally this was covered very little by the State Run Media at the time.

The NYT's has a purpose. Potential challengers have until Friday to apply to be on the ballot. There must be some ultra-lefty waiting in the wings.

Maybe Krugman, Friedman or Frank Rich live in CT.

It really is depressing to see the kind of people who get deeply involved in politics. They see themselves as a separate class, without honor or the desire for it, which is a quality for the saps.

Wow.. When is this scumbag Democrat newspaper going to finally just die?

Looks like he did get caught in a lie in that instance.

I do recall, however, that in the debate against the other Democrat a few months ago, he did clearly state that he never actually served IN Vietnam, just that he was in the Marine reserves DURING Vietnam.

The thing is that he made his defense with VFW members standing behind him in a VFW Hall.

He isn’t eligible to be a member of the VFW either according to their membership requirements.
