Former First Lady Laura Bush has come out against the Arizona immigration law, pointing to the discrimination that her own Irish ancestors, named Welch, faced in their time.
In an interview with Fox News, Bush said the new law merely showed an upsurge in prejudice similar to what her Irish ancestors faced.

She sure isn't the person I thought she was. On one of the programs she said she was OK with gay marriage.
The Irish were not then nor now the problem Laura...it is time for you to STFU.
“My post had nothing to do with gender identification either, I said the Dick Cheney is pushing the radical, left wing, homosexual agenda.
Dick Cheneys entire family has joined in that crusade, they have definitely joined the Mitt Romney camp.
Homosexualizing the American military is no answer to terrorism and war fighting challenges.”
One of Cheney daughters is a lesbo...the other is a very outspoken person of conservative values...are you saying that a person that is of a different sexual orientation would be bad?...I would site that in WWII they were many heros with different persuasions (British and American) what does it matter except to win the war?
By the way...I consider Mitt Romey is the same class as Jeb Bush...God Forbid
>>I have Irish immigrant ancestors. I bet theyd be shocked at how un-American large parts of the U.S. have become and would reflexively sympathize with Arizona.

How my Italian ancestors who came to the continent 140 years ago? They came here speaking NO English, uneducated, ready to work BUT THEY HAD THEIR DAMN DOCUMENTS AND PAPERS WITH THEM..
LOL, wanting to turn the military into a homosexual disaster and calling guys banging at each other “marriage” is a far cry from being a contender for the “perfect” conservative.
Dick Cheney is not even in the running for the “perfect” conservative.
EVERY son and daughter of Liberty has a right to their "own opinion".
Laura Bush was born with that "right".
She did not have to "earn" it.
Eleven signers of the Declaration of Independence were Ulstermen (Irish).
YEP...same with my Great Grandparents from Germany, about 130 years ago...my great grandmother MADE us STAND up in her living room whenever the National Anthem played on TV....
Her husband believes in “domestic partnerships” and abortion in the case of incest or rape. Dubya was always a big government liberal talking conservative talk to get elected.
(You sure you are not Larry?)
Who were they? Did you know that the military of that time was vast, and barely screened, and that the great majority were draftees? Even the Marines, Navy, and Coast Guard had almost 2 million draftees, the Army was 93% draftee.
Did you know that pro-gay marriage, Liz Cheney, signed on to work for Mitt Romney?
and where were their loyalties...TO AMERICA!
not the “homeland”.
God knows her husband did nothing to protect the border.
In addition, he also made a loving remark one time about his nanny, a Mexican woman (probably an illegal), as if SHE was the reason he was for amnesty.
Let’s just stick to posting pretty pictures of her ;-)
Good point re: Jeb. He’d be a huge disappointment.
Does anyone here ever read the whole quote ...I saw it and heard it and Laura Bush was well balanced in what she said...
LB: " I mean I think we have to have immigration laws and that's just a really important part of it. "
ie she agrees with the law ...the need for law
She goes on to talk about the debate ...and that goes to both sides....The Libs are inflaming the debate....and she doesnt like it
then she talks about the history of groups (the Irish etc ) the Irish came here legally as did all other groups.
She is right
All she is saying is talk about the need to follow the law and shut up about Mexicans/ Hispanics etc ............Its good advice.
the stupidity on this site about this issue is over the top.
