It was just a simple sales transaction set up via Craigslist, the Internet classified ads site. The item being offered was valuable a 1.07-carat diamond ring, with an asking price of $1,050 but James Sanders, a trusting man, felt there was nothing to fear.
Hes sold different things on Craigslist, Charlene Sanders told TODAYs Meredith Vieira Tuesday from Puyallup, Wash.
Tragically, Charlene Sanders is a widow today and her husband, James, is dead. He died defending his family from four people who came to the house in response to his ad. They didnt come to buy the ring; they came to steal it, along with anything else of value the family had.

Characteristic-non-sequitir-libertarian "logic" alert.
Craigs-List is the is archetypal lassaize faire marketplace. Complete free of the burden of moral consideration.
I dare you to think about it.
What do you want the Government to regulate the Internet??
“lets hear from the libertarians who think wholly unregulated markets are Utopia.”
Yes, this would never have happened if he’d placed an ad in the newspaper instead.
Why do you hate Craigslist?? If you don’t like it, don’t go there.. Plain and simple..
And if he placed an ad on a wall at a church or community center, you’d feel the same way?
Yep, and it was a foreseeable threat. This isn't the first time something like this has been reported; a year or two ago a man was killed in Texas in connection with a CraigsList ad. In that case, the victim was the prospective purchaser, coming to pay for a used car. It was a totally bogus ad, put out there to bait some unsuspecting person into showing up at the criminals' selected location, cash in hand.
Kinda like the "wild west", huh?
We are in a related type of business...and have already served as the middleman several times for older folks who needed to sell some larger items.
dead-dummy-sadness ping.
The focus on Craigslist seems a little silly when exactly the same thing could have happened as a result of a newspaper classified ad.
[lets hear from the libertarians who think wholly unregulated markets are Utopia.]
Well, we have a regulated market with police to protect us, a lot of good that did. No one has said free markets are utopia, they are just better than the alternative. And if you are unwise enough to not have your own protection in the current version of utopia, heaven help you.
Kimber's are sweet. I've been comparing 45's lately...
There are things known as cybercrimes, that is, committed through use of the Internet.
Well, I wouldn't call that a "cyber-crime" ... I mean, the Tulsa World, here in Tulsa, Oklahoma has ads that are printed in their newspaper everyday -- and -- they are also viewable online.
That's getting a wider audience than just Craigslist, because this Tulsa paper not only has it "online" but it has it "in print" too ... :-)
In this case, you might as well call it "an automobile crime" since an automobile was a key ingredient in committing the crime ... LOL ...
Look here for "cyber crimes" ...
I think you’re correct. This same thing could have happened with a newspaper ad, but Craigslist is the SUV of advertising, according to the old media.
Why do call an obervation (and one that you happen to not like) "hate?"
Clearly non-thought is the epidemic of our time.
BTW no one I don't know and have vetted gets in my home. Craig's List is a major risk I would not take.
The old media hates the internet.. Look for more stories in how Craigslist is bad and calls for more regulation....
You’ll hear a lot of negative internet comments regarding the 3 inch 1911’s. Mine has been flawless for about 3600 rounds. FWIW.
Love my Kimbers. Every time I think about getting this gun or that gun, my mind always wanders back to the Kimber selection. There is just something about a 1911 which makes all other guns pale by comparison.
Hmmmmmm...... never have liked EBay, Craiglist etc . Ripoff Incorporated !
You wanna ban bulletin boards???
Get a new nickname. Adam Smith is rolling over in his grave.
You should be banned just for being so stupid.
