An extraordinary row has broken out between Elie Wiesel, the Holocaust survivor, author and Nobel peace prize winner, and a group of Jewish residents of Jerusalem over who speaks for the future of the disputed city.

In a reflection of the divisions that sometimes exist between Jews who live in the city and those who idealise it from afar, 100 Jewish residents have responded with their own open letter expressing "outrage" at Wiesel's call, and accusing him of sentimentality and falsely claiming that there is no discrimination against Jerusalem's Arab population.

If they were lying I would expect either wrongly attributed signatories to have objected by now, or if they don't exist then the Israelis would have debunked them by now, using the same very basic rigour and provable methods used to check names on petitions and so forth.
Agreed. I see no basis for STD’s claims in any of my checks (admittedly limited to quick googles), but something of that magnitude would have left traces.
Sad to say, he is a big fraud.
Also sad to see that even people living in Jersalem don’t get it — it’s an us or them situation, and if they give in an inch the Arabs will slaughter them all and take over everthing. Haven’t they learned anything?
I have nothing but the greatest possible contempt for self-loathers, whether they are self-loathing white people, self-loathing Americans, self-loathing Westerners, or self-loathing Jews. These people represent the most pathetic, weak-minded section of humanity. They are the ones who are too cowardly and stupid to defend themselves or their own, so they immediately surrender their own ideals and culture and adopt that of their enemies. Afterward, they can only live with themselves by wallowing in the delusion that hating themselves and their own people is the morally superior position. They deserve nothing better than being shackled and beaten like the slaves that they are.

I found one website that discussed this issue, and to be honest, it had an agenda from some statements that said it thought the Holocaust was wildly exaggerated. I simply don’t buy it. And, the circumstances that people use to point to his not being a Holocaust survivor just don’t fly, to me.
This person accused him of being a holocaust faker, then uses Wiesel’s refusal to meet with him again after that as evidence that he has something to hide. It seemed ridiculous to me. But if someone says something I am unaware of, I am not ready to dismiss it out of hand.
I don't agree with the now elderly Wiesel's kissing up to Obama, but there is no doubt that he was a concentration camp inmate at Auschwitz and Buchenwald during World War II. I would be surprised if he doesn't maintain to this day the physical scars to prove it. Let's not play into this historical revisionism nonsense.

There are two narratives of the Holocaust. In one, `Amaleq rose up to try to destroy `Am Yisra'el (chas vechalilah!) before they returned to 'Eretz Yisra'el in order to disprove the existence of G-d and prove that all things occur randomly.
In the other the Jews were the free-thinking, iconoclastic victims of small-minded believers in G-d whose near destruction finally shamed mankind into abandoning religion altogether and affirmed "the unconquerable human spirit."
Mr. Wiesel deserves respect as a survivor, but it is sad if he subscribes to the second narrative.
When confronted by real inmates he ran away and refused to meet with them. It’s a scam.
