The newspaper cited comments by Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero to members of his party on Wednesday as relayed by people present at that meeting.
A spokesman for the Spanish Prime Minister's office confirmed the meeting between Zapatero and other socialist party members on Wednesday, but could not immediately confirm what was said at the meeting.

I think that all of these nation will return to the old currencies, leaving the Euro as a worthwhile experiment that did not work out. I think the Euro will cease to exist.
I don’t know enough about currency markets to be able to judge what each of their currencies would be worth on day one.
It was only a few weeks ago when I expressed concern for America’s headlong sprint to socialism that people pointed to France as the model and that I had little to fear.
Which of the following actions makes the greatest contribution to a Better World?
- when they ban offshore oil drilling?
- when they ban nuclear weapons?
- when all income is redistributed so it’s “fair”?
- when a Frenchman decides to pull out?
I’m thinking.....
France can chain itself to a corpse.
Have fun when the corpse goes zombie.
Germany should have called his bluff —
In case you missed it, internet rumor that Germany is about to issue Deutsch Marks again:

Where are these Chinese when you need them? They promised to ditch the dollar in favor of the Euro. Well? How about it? I'm sure we got some Euros around here somewhere... any Chinese want to trade their dollars for some nice shiny Euros? Going once... going twice... awww, c'mon. |
Let the Euro fail...lets hope for France’s charge to jump ship happens. Is our tax money being sent to Greece to help bail out their outrageous spending?? The old truism stands...”sooner of later, Socialists of the World, run out of other people’s money”!
Had a rumor thread yesterday that said Germany was going to leave the Euro.
The euro being down is actually a positive thing, at least temporary, for their exports and tourists.
France was looking to bail out their own banks by bailing Greece, the Germans wanted to bail out their banks directly. Knowing that Greece will default anyway the Germans were right.
The company I created imports very high-end audio/stereo equipment from Europe (France, Italy & Germany) and I purchase the product in Euros. I'm always watching the trends in the EUR/US$ valuations to best time my wire transfers on orders.
Never thought I would live to see the day. These are extreme times.
Those “rumors” take on a life of their own.
As I was typing this, Glenn Beck on the radio (delayed here in Jax FL) just started talking about Sarkozy and the Euro.
Man, if there was ever a case when a “vanity thread” by an area expert was called for, it’s you and it’s now. You should write a weekly essay and post it on FR.
NOBODY knows this topic like a guy like you. ALWAYS go to an area expert who is playing with his own money! (IMHO, an area expert is the equivalent of a “local guide” to special forces.) I am 100% sincere, being a small biz guy myself.
Like you, a small biz guy or gal are the source for any economic growth and we should try to support each other as much as possible.
Good luck to you and your efforts - these are indeed troubling times.
Heck no it doesn’t. I happen to love the Euro. Being stationed in Europe, it was a pain to have to change money all the time. Now you take euro and use it everywhere. Much more convenient and in the long run cheaper.
What I hear it probably still on UK Telegraph Germany may have pay Greek debt by themselves they not too pleased rightfully so that WHAT I hear
I believe that eventually, this will happen.
