Somalia rips Russian navy for casting captured pirates adrift

Pirates vow revenge on any Russians they capture after crew of hijackers abandoned in Gulf on Aden without navigation equipment or much hope of survival

Somalia’s transitional government called on Russia on Friday to explain why it had cut 10 Somali pirates adrift in the Gulf on Aden without navigation equipment or much hope of survival.

Russian forces last week stormed a hijacked oil tanker in a rescue operation that killed one pirate. Russia said 10 others arrested were later set loose aboard one of the small vessels they used in the attack.

A military official said they were stripped of their weapons and navigation equipment. Russian media later quoted a military source saying the pirates were now likely dead.

We all laugh as the Russians did what the US would not dot. We are a spine less nation. We would have fed them and then given them 1,000,000 as we didn’t read them their Miranda rights.

If they’ll just hold off on their invasion a couple of years they can participate in the Russians’ bicentennial celebration of Napoleon’s famous attempt.

In this case I think “transitional government” means “just passing through”.

Here today gone tomorrow (after bilking the Somali treasury of all US foreign aid).

But American and other flagships which have exhibited magnanimity toward pirates will be will be targeted.

Magnanimity? Heck, they are supporting the pirates and many Somalis when they pay the millions in ransom -- which has been going on for years.

Piracy has become a business, just like the drug trade and human trafficking.

It should happen to every pirate.

They should be thanking the Russians for not killing them then and there.

I hope this is an example of what Everyone should do when they capture a bunch of Somali pirates, except, I think they should be dropped off somewhere North of the Arctic Circle.....give them a little less of a chance....

This is the kinder, gentler Russian response. In the good ol days, they would have placed the pirates’ testicles in gift wrapped boxes as parting gifts for their adventure on the sea.

Exactly, whay should we care.

It might be nice to go into their villages and capture some of the families of the pirates in true 1600’s pirate style.

Return the family when they destroy their own ships and give up all their weapons.

Sounds like a peaceful solution that my great great great grandad Capt Keno Greybeard would've done, yar!
