It was insignificant in the US. Basically irrelevant, practically didn't even exist here until the last 8 months or so.,/i>

It was very significant worldwide. The US is not the end of the world. We have 7 billion humans on the planet, with only 300 million in the US, and by far most cell phones in use are outside the US, and the US share is only going to continue going lower.

The claim on your own link is proven invalid within the article, based on the most reliable source listed, IDC. Quote:

“The data are supported somewhat by a similar report issued from IDC on Friday. Looking at the smart-phone market by vendor, IDC found that Motorola had about 11.7% market share in North America in the first quarter, while HTC — another big vendor of Android handsets — had 9.2%. Combined, those numbers were ahead of the 17.2% market share attributed to Apple.”

What a croc, they tried to attribute 100% of HTC smartphone sales to Android, when everyone knows (or should know) HTC sells many Microsoft smartphones as well. Not every Motorola smartphone runs Linux either, some like the Evoke still run Motorola’s proprietary O/S.

Follow the link to the actual IDC report, where the word “Android” is barely even mentioned, and only in passing. This is typical Linux BS hype, and you not only fell for it but are falling all over yourself to try to convince others who know better.

Again, from your very own link, qoute:

"In a video showcasing Flash on Android, Android and Me spotted a new homescreen that could possibly be from Android 2.2."

Could possibly be from Android 2.2, LOL is that the best you got? At least I got some entertainment value out of my time spent here I guess. And your attempted denials that HTC isn't paying Microsoft cold hard cash to license their patents like all the other Linux-shipping companies that have so far shows how little you actually understand about the situation.

To summarize, all it seems you have is one bogus article that claims Android is out-shipping iPhone when they're trying to count HTC phones with Microsoft's O/S, and Motorola phones with their O/S, as Android. That and your video above that says it "could possibly" be Android running Linux LOL.

Have a good night.

The claim in my article is from NPD, who have a very solid reputation in the US for collecting sales data on every kind of consumer product out there, and its for the US market. Every tech (and some non tech) news source covered the story.

The quote was, “spotted a new homescreen that could possibly be from Android 2.2.”
That refers to the home screen, not to Flash running on Andriod.
Obvioulsy you never even watched the video did ya?
The guy doing the demo was an “evangelist” from Google (he idetified himmself at the start of the clip), and he stated clearly that it was Flash running on Andriod.

But hey, if you want,I;’ll give ya another link to the same video right here:

"Adobe shows Flash running on Android 2.2
updated 07:50 am EDT, Tue May 11, 2010Adobe teases Froyo and smooth Flash playback

Adobe in a new video demo (see below) has shown not only Flash 10.1 for mobile but a teaser of the next version of Android. The plugin now appears to run smoothly on a Nexus One and can handle most common use cases for Flash, including 3D, gaming, video and simply dynamic web content. Adobe's Ryan Stewart also explained some of how certain elements work: users tap-and-hold on an interactive Flash component to switch away from manipulating the browser."

I don’t want google to have anything on me.

In reality it ticks me off to no end...that in my lower toolbar it tells me what hoops I have to jump through to even get to FR.

One of them is google.....hate it.

Read the agreement between Microsoft and HTC. Again, its a cross licensing agreement.
Both parties benefit from each other’s patents (HTC has plenty of smart phone patents of it's own, as I showed you in previous links). Get it?

To summarize, all it seems you have is one bogus article that claims Android is out-shipping iPhone”

It's not one article.. It's hundreds of article from practically every news site out there. I provided a sample 5 news sources in my post # 284.

WRONG!
It's from NPD. Their reputation, based on a very long track record, is stellar. They clearly separate Win Mo from Andriod phones. But hey just keep being in denial and burying your head n the sand.

No, primarily it's payments to Microsoft for every HTC device that is based on Linux, since Linux violates their patents. You obviously didn't read the link I gave you in my very first post to this thread. Here it is again, since you're obviously still stuck in denial.

http://www.thetelecomblog.com/2010/05/04/google’s-android-os-becomes-far-more-expensive-and-a-lot-less-attractive/

Some excerpts, since you refuse to click on the link:

"Microsoft emerged from the shadows to publicly claim that Google’s Android operating system infringed on their intellectual property, a move that may turn out to be a dagger to the heart of both the long term viability of Android and Google’s plans for world domination.

This deal, coupled with whatever sum HTC will most likely be forced to pay Apple in its ongoing patent litigation, makes the Android the most expensive free OS on the market, we could see more and more manufacturers looking for more cost effective alternatives.

Analysts estimate that, with this latest deal, HTC is most likely paying Microsoft somewhere between $20 and $40 per phone, with the cost of the ongoing litigation with Apple—not to mention any future licensing deal—estimated to cost HTC almost double that, which suggests that the real cost of the Android OS is somewhere in the neighborhood of $40-$80 dollars per phone, a figure that would make it by far the world’s most expensive OS.

For HTC, despite the fact that the Taiwanese mobile manufacturer put a positive spin on this latest deal with Microsoft, it clearly has been a rough couple of months. Had HTC known that entering into business with Google would have brought the wrath of the mobile world down on their heads, I’m sure they would have reconsidered."

Typical Linux hype, as I previously stated. You're new around here, but some of us have been hearing Linux was going to run over Microsoft and Apple for years, when the facts are, both those companies are at or near record profits, and their customers more satisfied than ever. If you prefer cheap foreign clones like Linux to the American originals, that's your business, but don't try to convince us the cheap foreign clone is better, just make your patent payments on time. All of them.

It's from NPD. Their reputation, based on a very long track record, is stellar.

They're a nobody when measuring IT assets when compared to IDC, as anyone who's actually familiar with the IT industry would know. Thanks for outing yourself.

The guy in the video, identifies himself as being from Google right at the start of the video, and states clearly that this is Flash running on Android.

So what, could have been easily staged. Bottom line remains YOU can't run Flash on Android any better than someone with an iPhone can. So if Flash was actually so critical to you, you'd already be running Windows Mobile, but since you aren't, it's obviously not that critical to you despite what you said. You just don't like Apple, so much so you're willing to endlessly defend a foreign built clone of an O/S that's delinquent on their patent payments.

You can run but you can't hide.

LOL, I just have better things to do than educate someone who's clearly not interested, although watching you cling to that one report from a company that's better known for tracking apparel and convenience store sales than IT assets has been entertaining.

Typical Applebot stupidity you mean?
NPD has a very solid reputation for excellent research and for publishing sales figures for all kinds of consumer products going back a very long time, with stellar record to back it up.
You will forgive me if I take NPD's word over the insane rantings of yet another Applebot idiot on the internet, who has no figures to back anything he says up, no research, nothing but hot air, and who resorts empty rhetoric, bluster and transparent braggadocio to cover his ignorance and lack of intelligence.

# 1. The OS wars have been fought far more outside FreeRepublic, on tech web sites, than its been fought in FR.
FR is a political site. So your “you are new around here” is both irrelevant and stupid.
# 2. Android has ALEADY overtaken the iPhone in US market share. That is FACT. It's not a matter of Android will overtake the iPod. Its already done it, so what are you babbling on about?

that's your business, but don't try to convince us the cheap foreign clone is better”

Huh?
I see your utter insanity is finally coming to the fore. It was bound toc show sooner or later.
Listen, in case you are still in your insane zone, Android is from Google. It's not a “foreign clone’ of anything. It's written right here in this country.
And, both Android phones and the iPhones are mostly made in China. Neither of the two groups manufacture their phones here.
Get it?

They're a nobody when measuring IT assets when compared to IDC

In the US market, NPD rules, not just on smart phones sales, but in video game sales, TV sales, and every kind of computer product sales in this country. IDC is more into computer sales. NPD does computer sales AND consumer product sales.
In addition, while IDC never gave a breakdown for US sales, Gartner did. And Gartner’s numbers back NPD’s numbers up:

Android phone sales have overtaken the iPhone in the North American market for the first time, Gartner found today. Thanks to a 906 percent surge in shipments worldwide to 5.21 million phones, Google’s mobile OS outpaced Apple's in North America and the US in particular. The analysts didn't readily provide numbers, but it suggests that the majority of Android phones were sold in the US as Apple sold 2.7 million US iPhones.

insane rantings...idiot...stupid...utter insanity...

Nothing's worse than a Linux fanboi though, thanks for the demonstration.

Listen, in case you are still in your insane zone, Android is from Google. It's not a “foreign clone’ of anything. It's written right here in this country.

ROFL, do you even know who Linus Torvalds is, where he's from, and where and why Linux was first written? Portions of overall Linux have been written here, with most copyrights of it by Richard Stallman and his organization, although you probably never even heard of the guy or know anything about his politics either. But you might want to check into it before you continue on your tirades defending his software.

And, both Android phones and the iPhones are mostly made in China. Neither of the two groups manufacture their phones here.

But HTC isn't an American company, while Apple is. Makes a difference to some of us, who prefer to see US companies succeed verses the foreign cloners constantly ripping off their ideas and technology. I guess we can just agree to disagree at this point, but HTC is going to have to pay up anyway, so prepare yourself.

Yet again, your very own link doesn't back up your claim, to quote:

“Worldwide, Apple still comfortably outsold the combined Android platform, jumping from 10.5 percent of the market a year ago to 15.4 percent. Gartner however expected Android to overtake the iPhone before long...”

This clearly states that Apple outsold Android worldwide, COMFORTABLY it says. Yet here you are again, constantly claiming that Android is unquestionably outselling iPhone around the world, when the most reliable sources you've presented, IDC and Gartner, actually indicate you're wrong.

It may happen in the future, but it may not so you can't count your chickens before they hatch. You did the same thing with your attempted claim that Android runs Flash, which it might one day in the future, but does NOT yet for anyone except possibly some hackers in Google’s lab.

Add it all up, and your uncontrollable fanboism has caused you to misrepresent the truth, repeatedly. Let me know if you're interested in returning to reality, but if all you have left is more name calling and bogus proclamations, save them for someone else.

GE: Linux is a communist clone of US UNIX, in my opinion, which is hard to dispute. Not to mention Google is founded by a naturalized Russian, with a long history of anti-American behavior

Incredible... the lengths to which people can get passionate about Apple which is just a brand like Microsoft or Red Hat...
