Sen. DeMint endorses Paul in US Senate race in Ky.

U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint put himself at odds with Kentucky's Sen. Mitch McConnell on Wednesday by endorsing an antiestablishment candidate for U.S. Senate in Kentucky.

DeMint, a South Carolina Republican, gave his support to political outsider Rand Paul, one day after Minority Floor Leader McConnell endorsed establishment candidate Trey Grayson.

"I'm endorsing Rand Paul because he's a true conservative who will stand up to the Washington establishment," said DeMint, who released a written statement saying he still supports McConnell as floor leader even though the two disagree on Kentucky's Senate race.

"Rand has been running on the issues that matter since the beginning of this campaign, DeMint said in the statement. "He's a strong advocate for balanced budgets. He wants to end the culture of earmarks. He supports term limits. And he's 100 percent pro-life."

Paul, a Bowling Green eye surgeon, and Grayson, Kentucky's secretary of state, are among five Republicans running in the May 18 primary to replace retiring U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning, the 78-year-old sports icon who opted not to seek a third term.

Oh look, Demint has followed Sarah’s lead and is supporting Rand Paul.

I wonder how many of those suffering from PDS Syndrome will blow a gasket over this?

Is it possible that he could be hurt in this race just by being the son of Ron Paul, whom some folks think to be a little “out there” ???

If he's good enough for Sarah and for Sen. DeMint, he's good enough for me.

We’ll see. Clearly if Rand wins the Republican Primary, Ron Paul is not as damagingly “out there” as some here like to believe.

C’mon; give it a friggin’ rest before people start to think that your screen name is a misnomer. She did that out of a sense of loyalty to the old RINO fart. Right or wrong, she is a loyal person. That’s more than I can say for 99% of the people in Washington, D.C. who are a bunch of political whores.

But, you might be from the younger generation today that loyalty doesn’t mean s*** to anymore.

I don’t think Ron Paul is all that “damaging” either. But, the media has succeeded in depicting him as a “political freak” just like they’ve succeeded in depicting Sarah Palin as stupid and not up to the task of being President.

Good point. The complicit media has its own agenda.

We’ll see. The media has tried very hard to depict him as a political freak. We will find out how successful the media was when we see the results of the Rand Paul race. If Rand Paul wins, we can conclude that the media failed to paint Paul style small government conservativism as outside the mainstream.

The media is trying to depict Palin as stupid. It remains to be seen if the media is successful with her as well.

In 1978, some people would probably have said that the media succeeded in painting Reagan as too extreme. But sufficient numbers of people did not buy what the media was selling, Reagan won in 1980, and won 49 states in 1984.

We know that the media is trying, and we will see if the media has failed (in the case of Paul) very shortly.

Oh, great!

Now DeMint is making a HABIT of supporting RINOS just like Sarah Palin. I guess he's off the list now, too.

First Romney, now Paul.......Geez, DeMint!

It's going to be fun watching the “I hate Sarah Palin/Jim DeMint for President” crowd hide after they lampooned Palin for endorsing Rand Paul.

Sorry — I did not mean it as criticism of Sarah. In fact I said similar things to what you did, when people criticized her for campaigning for McCain.

The point I was trying to make, which I agree didn’t come across from my short post, is that we should make up our own mind, not only look at endorsements.

I do not agree with her endorsement of Rand Paul, but I won’t hold that against her.
