IN Alaska alone the existing pipeline has about 7-8 years before it has to be shut down.
Once production gets below 300,000 barrels per day it will be shut down. A 70 mile long connector could be built to a new field in the area but little is happening right now that I know about. the new filed could bump production back up to one million barrels per day again. We need it bad.
I guess the bigger question is how long will Americans enjoy paying $5.00 a gallon for gas. Will that eclipse the thought of an oil spill? We get 25% of our oil needs from the Gulf.
