Taliban are major threat to security

Snip: Now it is becoming more apparent the Taliban by themselves are a major threat to our security. Regardless of their links to al-Qaida, Taliban operatives seem determined to kill Americans.

***********

Here we go agaiin:
Hoekstra - Don't jump to conclusions on bomb attempt

“It’s too early,” said U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Holland), the senior Republican on a committee that deals with terrorism and security threats. “Don’t jump to any conclusions. Because it could be some lone wolf, crazy guy here in the U.S. Or it could be al-Qaida or Taliban.”

Claim - Taliban involved in NYC bomb scare no evidence of larger plot

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told ABC's Jake Tapper this morning that authorities had not found any evidence that the bomb scare in New York City on Saturday May 1 was part of a larger plot. "We have no evidence right now that this is anything other than a one off," said Napolitano.

2 boys schools blown up in Bajaur Agency

Snip: Taliban blew up two more boys’ schools in Khar tehsil of Bajaur Agency, increasing the number of schools so far destroyed in the agency to 82. Also in Bajaur, security forces shot and killed a would-be suicide bomber who attempted to blow himself up near vehicles of the forces in Bilalabad area of Khar tehsil. ....

Would be bomber in NY kept it simple

For years it has been a weapon of choice in hot spots across the globe: cars or trucks loaded with explosives, detonated in busy markets, public squares and government buildings.

The would-be bomber who left his smoldering SUV in the heart of Midtown Manhattan used the simplest of ingredients: gasoline cans, propane tanks, the kind of ordinary black powder found in cheap roadside fireworks.

Gotta disagree with the article claiming the Taliban are a threat internally here in the USA. Communicated with a good friend of mine currently serving in Iraq. He's a career officer (West Point grad) and heavily decorated from extensive action in Afghanistan. His knowledgeable opinion on the Taliban is that they're a bunch of Mountain equivalent Hillbillies with little effectiveness inside their own country and virtually zero effectiveness outside in even neighboring countries. They have NO aspirations against the US Homeland and any claims of this sort are a feeble attempt on their part to avoid being further marginalized. This was likely a lone nutcase. I don't put it out of the reach of AQ but this has nothing to do with the Taliban. I've been looking for AQ car bombings and suicide attacks on home soil since the Sept 11th attacks. But that's AQ and could originate from any number of countries besides Afghanistan. AQ is present in over 60 countries.
