Ariz. Immigration Divides Hayworth and Gutierrez
CBS Face the Nation ^ | May 2, 2010 | CBS

Posted on 05/02/2010 10:26:47 AM PDT by AuntB

"I would suggest that the law here in Arizona is designed quite simply to enforce federal law," said Hayworth. "I think what has been going on here has been a massive disinformation campaign and distortion."

Hayworth read directly from the Arizona law: "The law 'shall be implemented in a matter consistent with federal laws regulating immigration, protecting the civil rights of all persons.....'

Hayworth then asked a question of Gutierrez. "Do you think illegal aliens have done anything wrong by being in this country without authorization?"

Gutierrez said, "Let me tell you what I propose. I want to end illegal immigration as we know it."

That plan doesn't work for Hayworth. "It's not only illegals coming northward from Mexico," he said. "We've been getting Chinese. We've been getting people from the Middle East. There's a huge criminal component. Just Friday afternoon a sheriff's deputy wounded - apparently surprising - drug smugglers. Now 17 people are in detention, three of them persons of interest in the shooting of the deputy sheriff. This is a major problem.

"For Luis to suggest that somehow we need to forgive people coming into the country illegally — that's the root of the problem. When you enforce the law, people respond to the law."

"Early Show" anchor Harry Smith asked Hayworth if he thought the Arizona law was racist in nature...

Bristling somewhat, Hayworth said, "That is overblown rhetoric," he said. "What's going on is a deliberate distortion to move this from a question of enforcement to one of ethnicity."

Hayworth said supporters would actually do the opposite [boycott of Arizona]: "What I heard from friends in California the other day is that they want to start a 'buycott' — actually come to Arizona, to reaffirm the fact that all we're doing is enforcing federal law."

J.D. is exactly right, the race hustlers try to enflame people against enforcement.

Go Hayworth!

GO JD! JD shut the pink girl Luis down. McDemocrat would have been so wishy-washy on TV to the illegals.

Yeah right.
Gutierrez is one of the most racist vermin I have ever come across in my life.

What he means is if they all get amnesty (path to citizenship) they will no longer be ‘illegal’.

Well now, it could be that Gutierrez actually does mean it -- look again at the quote:

“Let me tell you what I propose. I want to end illegal immigration as we know it.”

By making every Hispanic who makes it across the border (not to mention any other ethnicity) legal, ie., amnesty and the disintegration of any laws regarding the path to citizenship.

You are right.
Question is, with his open borders policy, what does he propose to do about the another 20 million illegals that will no doubt continue to stream in after his latest amnesty plan is carried out?
Oh wait..he will propose yet another amnesty in 10 years time yet again.
This POS should be bodily carried over to the country he really owes his allegiance to, Mexico, and made to stay there for good.

Just Friday afternoon a sheriff's deputy wounded

And in Santa Cruz California we have had TWO teenagers in the last 6 months MURDERED by Mexican gangbangers: Tyler Tenorio and Carl Reimer.

WHERE is the sympathy for them?

Instead we get EXCUSES from Mexican police: It's Not the Gangsters Fault, It's Whitey

By the same token, we could eliminate murder in this country by redefining all incidents of homicide as non-criminal. Wasn’t that easy?

Gutierrez said, "Let me tell you what I propose. I want to end illegal immigration as we know it."

Now that could mean a lot of things. Like, no borders.

No no...he will propose instant citizenship for all hispanics as a "victim minority"

He will simpy abolish the borders and citizenship

Wouldn't you if you thought you could bring in your own voting block and vote yourself the right to control the nukes?

That's what's at stake here

One step in ending illegal immigration, Gutierrez said, is to "go after employers that hire undocumented workers and be very severe with them."

Yea, yea, yea. We have been hearing that for 30 years. After 30 years the employers are the illegals.

And you might check the government itself, Mr. Gutierrez. CBS News Saturday night interviewed a illegal in Arizona that said he is afraid of losing his government job. He said he will have to give it up and move out of Arizona. Clueless CBS did not even follow up on that little tidbit. Second, employers should not be the enforcement mechanism to control illegal immigration. It is called close the border!

Gutierrez is a Puerto Rican, representing an area where the vast majority of hispanics are Puerto Rican, not Mexican. Puerto Rican’s in Chicago number about 100,000, Mexicans, legal and illegal, in Chicago, are about 800,000+. So, his base is shrinking, and the other hispanic groups is rising. The vast majority of Mexicans and Puerto Ricans don’t get along, at all. So, Lil’ Luis is trying to expand his base by courting Mexicans. Good luck. Same thing with shake down Al Sharpton, black americans are diminishing as a power base, hispanics rising, ergo, jump on any minority ship that suffers from supposed whitey bigotry and voila, another cow to milk for twenty years. Scum floats on the top, and these two are prime examples of it. Lil’ Luis, with all his screaming and carping about how he hates drug dealers, and drugs, etc. well, that’s not what’s heard on the streets of Chitown.

“Bristling somewhat, Hayworth said, “That is overblown rhetoric,”

That is not bristling. That is being timid in the face of a very serious problem. I understand Hayworth has to choose his words and style carefully as a candidate but that does not mean the rest of us do.

The central issue must be close the border.

No matter what else is being said, this issue boils down to two camps: those that favor open borders and unlimited illegal immigration and those that want the border totally closed. Start framing the debate in those terms and we can make some progress.

You need to ask your representative, Republican or Democrat, what have they done as a an elected official to close the border. Talking about it, saying they support it is not an acceptable answer. Ask them what bill that have introduced and worked hard to get passed.

The bottom line is we have been failed by both Republicans and Democrats on the issue of border control over the last 30 years. That includes both presidents Bush, Reagan and every congressional Republican that has not been hammering the border issue.
