Arizona's tough new illegal immigration enforcement law would not be right for Texas, Gov. Rick Perry said Thursday, upholding the state's long-held tradition of rejecting harsh anti-immigrant policies.
The Arizona law will require local and state law enforcement officers to question people about their immigration status if there's reason to suspect they're in the country illegally, making it a crime for them to lack registration documents. The law also makes it a state crime to be in the U.S. illegally.
"I fully recognize and support a state's right and obligation to protect its citizens, but I have concerns with portions of the law passed in Arizona and believe it would not be the right direction for Texas," Perry said in a written statement.
"For example, some aspects of the law turn law enforcement officers into immigration officials by requiring them to determine immigration status during any lawful contact with a suspected alien, taking them away from their existing law enforcement duties, which are critical to keeping citizens safe."
The Arizona law has been hailed by conservatives as long overdue and two Texas lawmakers have said they'll introduce similar immigration measures when the Texas Legislature meets next. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told a U.S. Senate hearing Tuesday that a Justice Department review is under way to determine the Arizona law's constitutionality.

So that's it Perry? WTF. You mean such critical law enforcement duties as siting for hours and aiming a radar gun at "potential" speeders. Or asking for license and registration and proof of insurance? Those critical duties? Sheesh.
Figgers.....proof-positive that politicians talk more out of their arses than their mouths. The governor of Arizona has more guts than all the, ahem, and I use the term loosely, MEN (?) like Perry and Arnold! Now, I have to go buy some Arizona merchandise........:).
BS! Perry is such a RINO. Arizona’s law is EXACTLY what is needed in Texas.
Just cross linking to two other threads from different sources of the same topic if anyone is interested in reading them.
Perry must feel the need to pander to the Hispanic population in order to assure his election in Nov. Sad.....

Texans more than anybody should understand what happens to sovereignty claims, when too many invaders/immigrants are allowed into a territory.
Perry NOT RIGHT for TEXAS! Kick his sorry ass to Mexico!
When Republicans in border states subject to reconquista invasion feel the need to pander to the invaders, the battle is lost.
It seems like Perry has been digging his own grave for a long time.
And.... wow!... is this site SLOW today!!
Once again, reelection seems to induce latent RINO traits to manifest themselves.
Texas is under a daily assault from all the illegals streaming across the border. Citizens and police officers alike have been murdered by the criminal scum. Deport them all and watch the standard of living go up and the crime rate go down.
and vote for who, White. Texas is so screwed right now!
This country has gone to hell in a hand-basket. Pure insanity
We had better flood Perry’s office in disgust with this.
Gov Texas would have preferred the limelight that Gov Arizona is getting. Brewer has actually done something in contrast to Perry’s lip service. He’s going sour grapes.
Where someone stands on illegal aliens pretty well defines where they stand on the political spectrum. Politicians have a talent for being really flexible on many important social issues. Their personal and public view on something often are different since they must appear as their voters want them to be. So they hide their personal view.
I understand why Democrats immediately jumped on the hate Arizona bandwagon, they are doing it for votes. What I don't understand is why Republicans have. What do they expect to gain? They could have given a "non-reply" reply when asked about it, but some have choosen to jump into the fight with both feet, but (in my view) the wrong side.
This nation is being divided. The Democrats thrive by pitting one class of citizens against the other. Why would Republicans join the Democrats in this effort?
The unintended consequence of this new law is we can clearly see where a politician stands on this and many other important issues of today. We expect the left to dislike this law, we did not expect those that claim to represent our views to come out against it. I for one will not support a candidate for public office that disagrees with Arizona's right to rid itself of illegal aliens.
The propaganda the left and their friends in the media are putting out may convince some voters that Arizona was wrong, but when this gets to the courts it will be shown that the law does nothing the Federal Law does.
Now does anyone really expect the courts to rule that local governments cannot enforce Federal Laws?
The Democrats (like they did in the Iraq war) are giving the other side hope that the law will be over turned (and in the case of Iraq we would give up and go home). If we could present a solid front, a lot of the Illegals would realize the game is over and they would go home.
Once again the Democrats have choosen to put their polictical benefits ahead of the nations. I think all Republicans that have joined them in this cause just change parties and be done with it, since they represent the Democrats more than Republicans.
Flood his office with calls....if AZ law is “not right” for Texas, then my $$ is “not right” for Perry’s campaign!
Problem is there is no one else on the horizon and he knows it. KBH would have been even worse and the other one is a Democrat!
Texans need to “convince” their elected officials that it would be in their (and their states) best interest to back up Arizona.
When a state and its people go to the lengths that Arizona is currently going to free its people from the usurpation’s of the fedgov then ALL people and states that care about freedom from the tyranny of this marxist fedgov need to stand together with Arizona or any other state that takes the lead.
If we are serious about crushing the marxists hold on our lives then we are going to have to stand together as states AGAINST the fedgov and the F’ing morons who vote for them. It is time to create a loose federation of states that wish to be free from the tyranny of marxism. We must commit ourselves to the cause and each other. We MUST stand together and back each other up as if our lives depended on it.
NOW! not tomorrow or next week. NOW!
I dunno.....Bill White has come within 5 points on one of those “if the election were held today” and if Bill White by some quirk (or fraud where the Demonrats are concerned) wins, well, I’m movin’ to Arizona! *~*
