DENVER (AP) ― Denver Public Schools officials say they are banning work-related travel to Arizona so employees are not scrutinized under a law requiring officers to ask people about their immigration status.
DPS spokesman Kristy Armstrong says school employees are in the country legally but officials don't want them to be "subjected to that kind of scrutiny and search." The Arizona law signed last week by Gov. Jan Brewer requires authorities to question people suspected of being in the country illegally.
The law goes into effect this summer.
DPS Superintendent Tom Boasberg and board of education members are expected to announce the travel band Thursday afternoon.
What business do Denver Public School officials have spending taxpayer money to travel to Arizona anyway? Sort of like the San Francisco ban. If I were a taxpayer in Denver or San Francisco, I would be ticked that these folks are taking essentially vacations where they spend two hours in meetings and the rest of the time playing golf on my dime.

Too bad they aren’t teaching them some US history instead!

This is an election year.
Make it vocal that this will force us to note NO on any and every tax increase on the ballot.
Of course, we’d vote NO anyway, but still...
What possible reason would Denver School officials have to travel to Arizona?
They cannot run their own schools worth a crap, so stay out of Arizona’s problems.
Look at your own back steps, Colorado.
You have a big illegal intruder problem of your own.
I will not consider Denver in any travel plans in the future. In fact I think I’ll boycott the State of Colorado. No I have one better. Maybe Arizonans in favor of the new law should quit drinking Coors.
We have schools in Colorado that post everything in Spanish, from the school newsletter to the sign on the front lawn.
We have anti-blacklist laws here in Colorado. This would seem to fit the description.
Just watch what happens when Arizona gets her neck bent and gets pissed off by all these yahoos telling her what to do... Western folks are among the very most independent kind, and they are ALL about fed up with it.
and PS: Denver doesn’t count as Western (no offense to the true Coloradans out there).

Where will they put the new border across Colorado?
Another State offering illegals of Arizona a place to squat! California and Colorado - safe for illegals.
We just want a fence around Denver.
Which way will the razor wire on top be facing?
Inwards. Denver has become a santuary city.
Seal it off, eh?
It’ll implode within days, a few weeks later no one would be left alive. Bulldoze the crap and start fresh. It is a nice location, it just has too many cockroaches.
Of course they are against Arizona’s common sense bill re illegals.
Besides being liberals, probably 10-20% of the teachers and their bosses would lose their job if illegal kids couldn’t come to school.
Tell us what you REALLY think!
