Every time I pass U.S. Bullion Depository, I think about the level of effort required of so many men to collect all that gold from the far corners of the earth, places like the Sutter's Mill, Comstock, Dead Wood, Klondike, Nome, Kalgoorlie, Amazon, Tierra del Fuego and over a mile below ground in South Africa. I think of all the dirt, blood, sweat, tears and for most, the ruined dreams. For what? Human folly that's what.

And now we taxpayers pay a fortune to protect a mountain of relatively useless, burdensome, inedible stuff that protects an idiotic, long gone, outlawed illusion of national financial solvency. God has a great sense of humor. I laugh as I pass it.

I'm a tea partier. I have a Rand Paul bumper sticker on my car. I wouldn't waste five seconds of my precious time protesting the Gold Vault.

People: creative, inventive and hard working individuals are the true wealth of a nation. The Human Resource Center of Excellence is coming to Ft Knox. Ain't it ironic?

Speaking of Fort Hood...

"Major Nidal Malik Hasan, who allegedly killed 11 [count now 13, or 14 if you include the unborn child of the 21-year-old female soldier -etl] people before being shot and wounded by police at Fort Hood, had said Muslims should "rise up" and attack Americans in retaliation for the US war in Iraq, a former army colleague said."

"He said Muslims should stand up and fight the aggressor and that we should not be in the war in the first place." He said that Major Hasan said he was "happy" when a US soldier was killed in an attack on a military recruitment centre in Arkansas in June. An American convert to Islam was accused of the shootings.

Col Lee alleged that other officers had told him that Major Hasan had said "maybe people should strap bombs on themselves and go to Times Square" in New York."
