That some sort of wooden structure was found is interesting but it wouldn’t be the first ancient hut or shrine found high in the mountains. More investigation is needed.

Mount Ararat was most notably Volcanically active around 3000 b.c. and a few times since. You will notice the lava flow covering the wooden beams in some places and actually ending the beams as it appears the lava burnt through them in attached picture (left center). Hard to plant something like this. Either this is Noah's Ark or an old man-made structure (ref. 1840 volcanic activity, really an earthquake where structures were cover)....It appears this structure is at least as old as the covering lava flow. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Ararat (ref. wiki)

Great photo, thanks. That should dispel the hoax myth. Ughhhhhhhh, never mind. They could find petrified piles of zoo doo and the skeptics still would be skeptics.

“Perfectly preserved lumber? In ice? I believe the biblical account, but Im quite skeptical of this particular discovery.”
a Perfectly preserved Mammoth found in Ice you can believe, but Wood you can’t? See the photo on this same thread with Lava flowing over part of the structure. Lava from a 3000 BC eruption.

Why cant the skeptics of the literal account of Noah and the Flood find reason to be excited about a pretty spectacular archeological find? Even if its not the Ark, finding a human built structure older than the ice and lava flow that cover it should be reason for Christian and secular alike to be excited.
But most of the non-believers here on FR and in much greater numbers on the DU are hoping this all turns out to be some sophisticated hoax so they can laugh at the silly Christians, and so they can find reason to continue to reject the Gospel.

After years of watching Noah’s Ark stories and specials, starting with the excellent “In Search of” series I am glad that they have discovered something like this. For years I have seen shows talking about stories and pictures of something up in that mountains and now it comes to this. Who knows what it is but I think there is SOMETHING up there. What a great miracle if this really was the origin of the story. Lets keep watching.

a Perfectly preserved Mammoth found in Ice you can believe, but Wood you cant? Please read my post. I did not state that I do not believe this story. I said that I am skeptical. "Skeptical" means "requires more evidence."

For those who think the lava flow in above picture is ice
Mount Ararat is known as a StratoVolcano. This Lava tends to be Glassy like. Giving it a shimmer. In addition ice is covering the lava adds to the shimmer. It's a naturally occuring Glass called Obsidian which is found in Felsic Lava flow and is caused when this lava cools very quickly (like in a VERY cold environment at 13k Feet on Mount Ararat).
The lava that flows from stratovolcanoes tends to be viscous; it cools and hardens before spreading far. The magma forming this lava is often felsic, having high-to-intermediate levels of silica (as in rhyolite, dacite, or andesite), with lesser amounts of less-viscous mafic magma.
Picture of Obsidian Lava almost identical to the Chinese explorer picture I posted above.
