I think it locked up as the weight came off the tire.

I think the front tire is still in contact. Those sparks are coming from the front foot rest support. In fig 1, the foot rest support is within an inch of scaping the ground and the rider's oblivious to it. In fig 2, there's a death grip on the left grip, no clutch and the engine protection bar is not hitting the ground, but the foot rest support is digging in and scraping.

I really think he's trying to steer. He tosses the bike into a high side with more steering input, gets scared and falls off the low side, because he feels otherwise the bike's going to throw him high side. Note where the bike is in the 3rd frame when he falls off vs. the second.
