I never said that just one "identifier," e.g., the beater car was a trigger point. Look, if you can't spot an illegal that is your problem, there are any number of clues - I just mentioned a couple.

Something you have to remember, that while a citizen of hispanic descent 'may' get tagged occasionally, it doesn't take very long to detemine whether they're worth investigating further or not. Finally, no I wouldn't mind getting pulled over if it meant that we could finally get rid of these criminals. The problem is that bad and this government refuses to do anything about it even though these people have no Constitutional rights whatsoever in my book.

I sympathize with your personal situation, but from the way you describe it, I don't think you were getting pulled over for suspicion of being illegal....

No I get pulled over for driving while having long hair and out of state plates. I had a city cop in a little town out side of SLC tell me that my appearance fit their profile of a drug smuggler, long hair, van, Texas plates. While I agree that illegals need to be dealt with, I disagree with this method. What’s next, trucks with gun racks or NRA stickers are OK to stop on the off chance the driver has an illegal firearm. It won’t be a big deal if you’re legal and have all your papers in order. Anyway it wouldn’t effect a majority of citizens since most people don’t carry anyway so the percentage of citizens who get their rights trod upon would be small, and anyway it would be worth it if it helps stop another school shooting. We can’t take a chance that somebody somewhere might break the law.

Nobody should have their civil and constitutional rights trashed (American citizens that happen to be Mexican, or Mexican immigrants who are here legally) because somebody somewhere is breaking the law.

You said that while an American of Mexican descent may get tagged occasionally it won’t take long to sort it out. You’re being pretty cavalier with someone elses time and their rights as citizens. It’s almost funny that we bitch about govt having too much power then cheer when they get more as long as that power is directed at someone that’s not us. My problem with this is that when it comes time to stand up to the next govt power grab, we’ve already undermined our own position.
