Do Blacks Have a Reason to Vote GOP? Michael Steele Says No
CBS ^ | 4/22/10 | Stephanie Condon

Posted on 04/24/2010 6:40:43 PM PDT by blueyon

The Republican Party has not given African Americans a good reason to vote for the party, Republican National Committee Chair Michael Steele said Tuesday night.

"You really don't have a reason to, to be honest -- we haven't done a very good job of really giving you one. True? True," Steele said at DePaul University, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Steele, the first African-American chairman for the RNC, said the GOP has lost its historical link to African Americans.

"This party was co-founded by blacks, among them Frederick Douglass," he said. "The Republican Party had a hand in forming the NAACP, and yet we have mistreated that relationship. People don't walk away from parties, their parties walk away from them."

Michael Steele does not believe that blacks can be conservative. This is unreal.

He is a not very concealed sleeper. He is the 2010 October surprise.

You gotta admit, it was a pretty good plan. Get a black commie planted at the head of the RNC to destroy it from within. If the GOP fires him, they are racists. If they keep him, he'll keep chewing away at the supports.

Gramsci to the max.

I know of a really good reason for blacks to vote R. Their freedom! of course voting for an R is like voting for a D right now. Just sayin.

My personal opinion is that the image partly correct has been planted into the majority of minds (regardless of race) that the GOP or Republicans are 'country club' rich peoples that like cheap laborers, speculators running Wall Street that despise common folk.

Notice the Tea Party response was not birthed out of the official GOP Republican McCain party. And that is the Party that Mr. Steele is complaining about NOT law and order, living by the rules conservatives.

What a damned tool.

No reason to vote GOP? The GOP with all its faults (and Steele is a BIG one) at least isn’t trying to GREASE the skids towards ruin like the Dems.

Blacks will find out that when an implosion occurs, it isn’t going to be limited to conservatives or evil capitalists.

I guess we just dont offer enough free stuff at tax payers expense. If blacks are truely conservative they are already in the party.

Can he really be this ignorant of the role of the Democrat Party in slavery and Jim Crow, and the Republican role in ending them?

Breathtaking.

Nothing worse than when Republicans try things that normally they are fundamentally against ... like affirmative action.

Well if blacks expect payola from the government plantation then they have every reason to vote Democratic... But if they want to keep what they earn and live their own life they have every reason to vote conservative.

Apparently CBS is interested in what Steele has to say only when he is going negative on his own party.

And, what exactly does Steele think Republicans should be doing to reach out to blacks? Offering affirmative action? Reparations for slavery? Tougher hate crime legislation?

Do Americans have a reason to contribute to the RNC?

Contributions need to be directed toward individual Republicans, not the RNC.

Can Steele even give his name and address without putting his foot in his big mouth?

Who cares? The majority of black people will never vote GOP anyway. Outreach is a pipe dream and we should stop it.

DISCLAIMER-

I’m certified black enough to make the above statement.

What should the “good reason” be? I do believe the GOP has been not very good at outreach and is sometimes a “stiff” not very approachable party but I’d think simple dignity would be the reason if the choice was between being a Republican and a Democrat.

I’m very disappointed in Steele, I used to really like him. However, he was not “made leader” because of his skin color - remember that Ken Blackwell was in the running, too.

Steele is a jackazz. He is a RINO and unqualified to head up the RNC. By making the statement he did he gave the Democrats another hammer to hit the Republican Party in the head with.

There is no room in American politics for a fool like Michael Steele who refuses to acknowledge the tremendous improvement in opportunity for blacks in America today. I find him disgusting as well as incompetent. He has to go.
