I remember playing with it as a child also. I also remember when the mercury free ones came in, and being upset about it, because pushing mercury around was so cool.

From Dr. Iva Grant and Professor Jean Stretchin:

“THERE IS NO SAFE level of stupidity. Even small amounts INJECTED into thinking processes can produce HUGE AMOUNTS OF PANIC!!!

Total and complete BS.
Elemental (liquid) mercury is so harmless you can swallow a small amount and suffer zero harm. If left alone in the school it would no cause any problems, period.

Every once in a while, we’d take the chunk of metal and drop it in the palm of our hand and watch is slowly melt.

That doesn't sound like mercury. Mercury is a liquid at room temperature...

Its not dangerous to play with every so often. Just need to be careful not to eat it or breath in the vapors. Its been a staple in every science class. They used to liters of the stuff in plastic bottles.

Of interest about autism “link”:

“The Damage of the Anti-vaccination Movement,” my LA Times piece

By Michael Fumento

Among the facts that have come out of the inquiry of Wakefield’s research is that two years before his paper appeared lawyers seeking to sue vaccine-makers paid Wakefield the equivalent of $700,000..............”

Wakefield pulled the autism/vaccine wagon.

"You anti-vacciners make us educated conservatives look bad. Please stop."

Forgive us ignorant peasants. We are not as enlightened as you and Obama and the other educated elites. That is why we need government to make all our health decisions for us. LOL

Your showing your age. If a thermometer broke accidentally, it was fun rolling all the small balls into a large enough ball to sweep up...Mercury was fun and I made it to over 70 playing with the stuff....Once you rolled it all into a ball, you could smash it again and go after all the little balls of mercury to make a large ball again....... Until mom caught you......

So every time one of the new “greenie” light bulbs breaks, we have to move schools.

Just like Bammy invested in Baxter Pharmaceutical, maker of the H1N1 vaccine—he bought 50,000 shares in 2007.

The curly mercury light bulb is the symbol of environmental hypocrisy. The "environmentalists" ignore a real hazards like mercury. because they really just want control over people and to have a self-righteous cause.

More than that, the lamps never last as long as hyped, because they are made in a Turd World pesthole Most Favored Trade Nation where the waste is just dumped into the rivers, anyway.

“It melts at 85.6 degrees, much like M&Ms.”

But probably doesn’t taste near as good.

I think that we all played with mercury when we were kids and we did it in a house where at least one parent smoked. Not only that, we ate lunch meat, apples sprayed with Alar, eggs, bacon, drank sugar laden soda pop, and we ran with scissors.

As adults, we ate oatmeal when it was good for us and quit when it was bad and then ate it again when it was good for us again. We did the same with coffee and other things that the experts told us was good for us or bad for us.

How did we ever survive?
