Because Obama acts as if he has something to hide and he obviously does.
Here is what I believe and why. My Unified Theory of Obama's Birth Certificate:
Is Obama a natural born citizen?
Yes.
How can you be sure?
Because Obama ran for office when a Republican was sitting in the White House. As soon as he became a serious Presidential possibility, the FBI, under the orders of a Republican President, would have checked out the original birth documents to ensure a legal candidacy. If there was evidence that he was not a natural born citizen, the Republican White House would have been on Obama like a pitbull on a pork chop.
So why does the so-called "myth" persits?
Because Obama hides behind privacy laws to refuse to release the original birth certificate. Obviously, Obama has something to hide. The "birthers" believe he is hiding the place of his birth. I don't because of the reasons I gave above.
So, if not his birth place, what on Earth is Obama hiding?
Embarrasing details in his original birth certificate that would tarnish his carefully manicured "Dreams from My Father" public image.
1. Obama was an illegitimate child born out of wedlock. His father, Barack Obama, Sr., was already married in Kenya to Kezia Aoko and the U.S. Government knew that from his visa application. Polygamy is not legal in the U.S. and Obama's mother is probably listed as "Single" in the original birth certificate.
2. His given name on the original birth certificate was probably "Barry" and not "Barack" and his given surname on the original birth certificate may have been "Dunham" and not Obama.
Until sombody proves me wrong, that's my theory and I'm stickin' to it.

You put way too much trust in the label “Republican”. The president can’t just order an FBI investigation into somebody because he’s running for president. This guy hasn’t had a background check by ANYBODY.
And yet Roger Calero, who OPENLY AND PROVABLY wasn't a natural-born U.S. citizen ("Notable: Nicaraguan Native" -- information provided by the candidate), managed to get on the ballot (Socialist Workers' Party) in some states. His candidacy wasn't legal and yet it was "allowed" in these states. How does this mesh with your theory about BO?
You may well be right about that; but what about all college and passport records? Why hide them so carefully?
