Actually, under the definition of “Natural Born,” this should require the birth certificates for the candidate and the candidate’s parents. Natural Born requires both parents to be citizens.
. . . and "citizen" implies current citizenship, not revoked/abandoned citizenship via marriage of the mother of a minor child to a foreign national and subsequent adoption of foreign citizenship. And the standard of proof for that is within the purview of every state's legislature. As SCOTUS noted in the Bush v. Gore decision, each state legislature has the authority to select the state's presidential electors directly without even conducting and election, at its discretion.
A birth certificate for the candidate, birth and/or naturalization papers for the parents. They don't have to be born here, they just have to be citizens.
“Natural Born requires both parents to be citizens.”
IMHO, the SCOTUS has not (yet) ruled definitively on this. It is clear that IF both parents are citizens then the child is a NBC.
I would recommend a reading of Minor v. Happersett, which casts doubt on the ‘natural-born citizen’ status of the class of citizens that are born to one citizen parent, and one non-citizen parent - which is the case with Obama if he were born in HI and BO Sr. was his daddy. If he was born in Kenya, say Ann Dunham was chasing his Dad down there, there is real doubt whether she was old enough to pass along even her US citizenship to BHO, based on the statutes of the time.
