In a meeting with students at West Virginia University, a young pilot asked the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. Army, Mike Malen, to comment on rumors that if Israel decides to attack Iran, its fighters will need to cross Iraq's airspace to reach their targets. The U.S. military has described this airspace as closed to flights. If so, would American forces shoot down Israeli planes flying over Iraq?
Malen's reply: "We have a strong exceptional relationship with Israel. I spent much time with my colleagues in Israel. And so we have a very clear understanding of where we are. Beyond that, I just would not want to get into speculation about what might happen and who might do what. Frankly, I do not think it serves any purpose. I hope that the issue will be resolved in the way which will never have to answer a question like this. "

Still I fear for Israel... the time of Jacobs Trouble seems to be lining up....yet there will be a day where God Himself will stand before all her enemies and wipe them out Himself...til then my heart goes out to the people of Israel who are now living in such uncertainty...so much is fast moving toward a tipping point one way or the other.
I didn't say it was up to us.... or that I trust his policy one way or the other. I said the US has a right look out for her interests, and Israel a right to look after hers.
I also said it should not just be assumed we would allow Israel to use US controlled airspace, when it may put US troops in harm's way, or conflict with our security interests. This is my entire point
hope you registered for the draft
i' too old to serve
That was a rhetorical and sarcastic remark designed to put you personally (hypothetically) in the position of being engaged by foreign powers based on who they were and without any US recourse or discussion.....
That was a cheap shot and I apologize.
What the hell was that? Using main guns against Civilians? F-16s? When did the liberty happen? I thought it was in 67 or 73?
The King laughed. Not because he had to but because he had two (flip the 2s at your discretion.)
While I would tend to agree with you, it’s all speculation. The people who know the whole truth aren’t talking.
“I said the US has a right look out for her interests, and Israel a right to look after hers. “
Agreed.
“I also said it should not just be assumed we would allow Israel to use US controlled airspace, when it may put US troops in harm’s way, or conflict with our security interests. This is my entire point”
Agreed.

I didn’t take it that way so no need to apologize. But I apologize for overreacting to your post on the Liberty. I’ve had bad experiences with some posters on that subject and am over-sensitive. I’m sorry.
scumbag dem president is at least a commonality.
At least according to the Israelis. That can work both ways.
I do not for a minute believe the Israelis are bloodthirsty monsters -- and I know someone who was an officer on the Liberty.
I already addressed in post 117 I MESSED UP THE AIRCRAFT MODEL.
I also posted another directing people to 117.
FOR THE THIRD AND FINAL TIME..... I POSTED THE WRONG AIRCRAFT MODEL.
The point is the USS Liberty requested air support which they were told was en-route.... it wasn't. The Israelis believed it was.
No problem....I didn’t see your post 117 until after I posted. I wish Free Republic had an “edit” feature.....
my bad, didn’t mean to come off like I was dropping the hammer on you
There is plenty of rabble out there in the world of internet journalism, I can understand questioning the credibility of the article if they can’t even correctly identify the source. However, from what I understand INN is very reputable. Mullen was at WVU. I suspect is was just a mis-translation of his name.
“At least according to the Israelis. That can work both ways. “
Yup
“I do not for a minute believe the Israelis are bloodthirsty monsters — and I know someone who was an officer on the Liberty. “
Which still leaves us with a whole bunch of unanswered questions.
They won't.
Because most posters registered long-term at Free Republic know the USS Liberty issue has been re-hashed to the point of absurdity and tend to a default view, that bringing it up yet again belies ulterior motives other than unbiased "critical thinking."
The relationship between the United States and Israel in 1967 was radically different than it is now. Rehashing, again, an incident that took place between the two countries in the disorder of a war zone over four decades ago in very different times, tends to brand the poster other than innocuous.
Just sayin'.

It’s a typical military response to avoid discussing the game plan. I wouldn’t take anything from this except to say the plans are on a need to know basis.
There are many things we'll never have the answers too. I don't buy into anything being 100% when it comes to stuff like this. A lot of folks think Israel would never ever do anything to us.... Israel will look out for Israel and if we get in the way oh well; however, the possiblity remains they may get in the way of our policies.....
Case in point, Saddam tried to attack Israel (with scuds) during the Gulf War in order to sucker Israel into the war; thus "forcing" other Arab nations to relaiate against Israel in order to save face with their civilian populations.
We put our interests first and basically told Israel to "suck it up" that we would handle it. Israel showed restraint in not retailiating against Iraq.
I'd appreciate it.
From your keyboard to God’s ear.....
Iran will be hit by Israeli cruise missiles fired from the Indian Ocean.
