I’m always behind the pop culture learning curve. Last night my daughter and her fellow took me out to a nice dinner, then treated me to a movie – Martin Sorcese’s “Shutter Island”. I’m still recovering from the shock – just took some over-the-counter medication a little while ago to ease the tension headache hangover. It’s a very disturbing psycho-drama about a veteran U.S. Marshall (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) who is dispatched alongside a partner (Mark Ruffalo) he’s never worked with to investigate the mysterious disappearance of one of the criminally insane inmates from the island’s asylum.
I won’t reveal the surprise ending, in case you haven’t seen it. However I will tell you that I could not help noticing a healthy injection of Leftist political indoctrination into the script. At one point DiCaprio’s partner launches into an intense postulation that the villains who are running the asylum and engineering a horrific conspiracy replete with lobotomies, are connected to the remnants of the late 1940s to early 1950s House Un-American Activities Committe (HUAC). The late Senator Joseph McCarthy, who tactlessly investigated numerous Soviet agents within the U.S. Government, immediately came to my memory.

Marty’s a Lefty, but the fact is the anti-McCarthy message was in Lehane’s book before it was made into a movie. Reminds of those who complained about the anti-religious aspects of War of the Worlds without knowledge of HG Wells’ own atheism and hostility to religion in general(also in the book).
You will know what the “surprise” ending is in the first few minutes making the rest of the movie sort of pointless.

In actual fact, with a name change, HUAC remained in existence till 1975. Watergate finally drove a stake thru its heart.

If you must go to it, buy a ticket to one of the “good conservative movies” which is very rare, and then switch theatres on the way in, you support the local movie theatre and stick it to the Hollywood Establishment.

Read the book instead. It’s very good.
I'm amazed that entertainers work so hard and so often to alienate half their audence. The Dixie Chicks come to mind. I guess that after you've "made it" you can afford it.

That stuff is right out of the novel from what I gatherered.
Yours was the second post I saw today that had those typos in it. There must be some gremlins in the FR machinery this morning.
