Catholics and Jews are targeted because of their structure and ability to organize their people. The media and politicians will target them because they have no control over them and feel they have to much power. This perceived power is something they hate. Granted, both sides have made mistakes throughout history, every organization has. But it seems the people will change things eventually. The media and the politicians want to be the ones to change things and take this power of the people away from them.
That's certainly true regarding the Vatican. That Jews have a structure, an ability to "organize" their people, that's millenia ago, but you're right, a perception amongst those who target Israel and/or Jews, perhaps a fear.
